Half & Half Productions (Company) is casting Passing Strange; a rock musical performance art piece by Stew and Heidi Roswenwald about the search for “The Real.” Julianna E. Wright & M. Scott Tatum direct. Rehearsals begin April 12th. Performances run May 2-12 in Austin, Tx (Half & Half @ VENUE TO BE ANNOUNCED. AUDITIONS ARE MARCH 19th, 2013 at Casa De Luz.

SEEKING

Passing Strange musical Rosenwald Half n Half Productions Austin TXNarrator: Our narrator. Incredibly strong musician/actor/singer. Charismatic, funny and strong. PREFERRED: PLAY GUITAR. Actor will accompany himself at audition.

Youth: Man, 18-35. Exciting, an artist at heart. Seeking a dynamic singer/strong actor with a sense of exploration.

Mother: 35-60. Strong, vulnerable, warm, maternal. Dynamic singer sought.

Edwina / Marianna / Sudabey: Multi-character role, female, 20-45. Sexy, irresistible, dangerous. Seeking a dynamic singer.

Mr. Franklin / Joop / Mr. Venus: Multi-character role, male, 20-45. Energetic, with an edge. Dynamic singer/strong actor sought.

Terry / Christophe / Hugo: Multi-character role, male, 20-40. Younger, a sense of naïveté and sense of humor. Seeking dynamic singer.

Sherry / Renata / Desi: Multi-character role, female, 20-35. Young, sexy, edgy, vibrant with a vulnerability and strength. Dynamic singer sought.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS Resume required, Head Shot Preferred. Dress comfortably for the dance and movement portion of audition. Please come prepared to audition with 32 bars of music in the style of the show. Music from Passing Strange is permitted as you will sing it at callbacks. In addition, sides will be given. Men wear tank tops and athletic shorts and Women wear leotard and leggings. Bring jazz shoes if you own them. Black clothing preferred.


SYNOPSIS A young, Black musician, The Youth, travels on a picaresque journey to find “the real.” His journey is complicated by his need to rebel against his mother and his upbringing in a church-going, middle-class, late 1970s South Central Los Angeles African-American neighborhood. The Youth grows up, “passing” through place to place, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Los Angeles. As a musician, he attempts to express his true self through a number of musical styles, including gospel, punk, blues, jazz, and rock.


Auditions will be held by appt. only March 19, 6pm-10pm at @ Casa de Luz, 1701 Toomey Road, 78704.
