The Wimberley Players Announce Auditions for Sundown Town by Kevin Cohea at the Wimberley Playhouse, 450 Old Kyle Road, Wimberley, TX 78676 (click for map), Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 1 pm and Saturday, February 24, 2012 at 1 pm.
Sundown Town is a new drama with acoustic music, singing and some dance. The setting is in and around Healing Springs, Arkansas in the late summer of 1918. Singing will be both with accompaniment and a cappella in the old-timey folk and shape-note gospel styles. Musicians will be part of the cast and will perform both on and offstage. Performance dates are April, 13 – May 6.
Cast: 2 women, 7 men (including a principal role for an older fiddler) plus additional Chorus/townspeople; musicians who play acoustical string instruments (old-timey/bluegrass, such as fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, auto-harp,etc.)
Auditions are general open calls. You will not need to bring any prepared monologues or songs. During the auditions: you as a group will learn some simple dance combinations, learn some songs from the show and read sides from the show. Actors please bring/wear clothing and shoes appropriate for dancing. Musicians: please bring your instruments and be prepared to play a little something and/or jam with the other musicians
