Auditions in Georgetown for Cats, the musical, December 7 - 9, 2013

The Georgetown Palace announces auditions for our upcoming production of CATS, with direction and musical direction by Clifford Butler.


The Artistic team is looking for a cast of approximately 24 adult and young adult actors. Actors must be at least 13 years of age to be considered for a role. All types, ethnicities and sizes are encouraged to audition.


Auditions will be held Saturday, December 7th, starting at 2pm, Sunday, December 8th, starting at 7:15pm, and Monday December 9th at 7pm. Callbacks will be held Tuesday, December 10th, starting at 7pm, with a possibility of additional callbacks on Wednesday, December 11th.


There will be some initial rehearsals during December, but the main rehearsal period will not begin until January 6^th. Performances will begin February 14th, and close Sunday, March 23rd. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 2 pm. As this production tends to be very popular, it is also very likely that we will be adding Saturday matinees and possibly Sunday evening performances. All Auditions, Rehearsals, and Performances will be held at the Palace Theatre.


CATS is a very complex and difficult show with a tightly knit ensemble. For that reason, I am very disinclined to accept performance conflicts. However, we are considering the possibility of performing understudies and an offstage chorus, which may allow for some flexibility. If you do have (non-excessive) performance conflicts, please do not be discouraged from auditioning; just be sure to outline those conflicts on your audition form.


Our rehearsals will generally be held Monday through Thursday, from 7-10 pm, and Saturdays from 11 am-5 pm. However, it's possible that we will schedule rehearsals on some Sundays and Fridays as well. So we are asking for everyone's availability for the possible alternative times up front.


The Audition: Auditions on Saturday and Sunday will be vocal only. If you are interested in one of the particular soloists listed, please come prepared to sing the audition sides listed for that character. Even if you are interested in multiple roles, please pick only one set of sides to sing that shows the best of your vocal ability. You will be considered for all appropriate roles. If you are not aiming for a particular role or you are interested in one of the roles below with the default side (side 13 - Jellicle Songs), you can instead bring a song selection of your own that lasts no longer than 1 minute.


On Monday night, you will be taught a dance or dances to be performed in small groups, and there will also be some movement work.


Callbacks will be by invitation only, and consist of singing, dancing, and additional movement.

Austin Auditions for Little Mother, a Silent Performance Piece, Paid Positions, November 21, 2013

Katie Green of Cruel Company is holding auditions on November 21 for the revised, expanded premiere of last year's Frontera Fest workshop of Little Mother to be produced on the outdoor stage of the Vortex’s Butterfly Bar March 6-9 (Break for SXSW/Spring break) and March 21-24. This play will also be produced in NYC during the same time by another company. Cast and crew positions are paid.

Little Mother is the story of a young woman who must prostitute herself to provide for her paralyzed husband and newborn child. In order to escape her bleak circumstances, Little Mother develops a rich inner life—the love story of an elephant and rooster—with echoes from her past. Will she succumb to her own fantasies, or prevail through reality? Little Mother is a multimedia silent film for the stage told through physical acting, shadow puppetry, text, and live musical performance of an original score.

RING MASTER: male, late 20’s – late 40’s, the ring master of the circus Little Mother once performed in. He is pragmatic and cold with a weakness for young girls.

STRONG MAN: male, 25 – 35, Little Mother’s husband. Formerly the strong man of a circus, now paralyzed. He is protective and kind, and would be devastated if he knew his wife’s profession.

Rehearsals will be light in January, moderate to heavy in February, and tech week is the first week of March. For your audition, please prepare a 1-2 minute non-verbal story. Auditions for A Midsummer Night's Dream and for Street Theatre, Present Company, May 23 and 26, 2013

Present Company is thrilled to announce auditions for our next two projects, Shakespeare On the Farm: A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Happenstance. First-round auditions for both projects will be Thursday, May 23rd, 6:30-9pm at the Carver Museum, 1165 Angelina Street (click for map ) and Sunday May 26th, 2-5pm at The Circus Tent, 6404 Hergotz Lane (click for map).

Our fifth Shakespeare On the Farm, A Midsummer Night's Dream, will open the second week of September at the magical Rain Lily Farm in East Austin. Rehearsals will begin late July/early August. Actors are asked to prepare a 2-minute comedic Shakespearean monologue. Callbacks will be Saturday, June 1st at Rain Lily Farm, 10-2 pm.

AND

Happenstance, a roaming street theatre piece, will be performed in and around Austin at various times and locations. Happenstance is based in movement, rhythm, and rhyme, and we are looking for triple threats and good movers unafraid of some fun displays of public performance. This is a collaborative endeavor in which all participants contribute to the creation of the piece. Rehearsals will begin late June. Please have a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue or poem (original encouraged) prepared. Movement-oriented callbacks will be the following week.

VORTEX Repertory Company is seeking students ages 13-17 to participate in Summer Youth Theatre 2013 (SYT). Now in its 22nd year, the award-winning SYT program rehearses in the evenings with a few weekend day commitments in June and July and is tuition-free. SYT encourages diversity. Students of any ethnicity or heritage, students with disabilities or economic challenges, and students of all experience levels are welcome. SYT provides students with experiences in all aspects of theatre including acting, technical theatre, and publicity. The rehearsals culminate in a full production of a play presented to the public over two weekends. 

Prior to the audition/interview, students must fill out a short application and prepare a memorized, one-minute piece of dramatic text from a play. A parent or guardian is also required to attend the interview.

Jean Anouilh's tragedy Antigone is inspired by Greek mythology and Sophocles’ Antigone (5th c. BC). The play was first performed in Paris in 1944 during the Nazi occupation. Its English debut in London in 1949 with Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. Originally produced under Nazi censorship, Antigone is purposefully ambiguous with regard to the rejection of authority (Antigone) and the acceptance of it (Creon). The futility and complexity of war, victors, and fallen heroes provides a strong commentary on current conflicts.


Antigone is directed by Talena Martinez. Ms. Martinez has directed productions of original musicals including Just As You Are and Shades of Grey, as well as Godspell, Alice and Wonderland, Narnia, Peter Pan, Fame, and Grease. She founded Austin Children’s Theater in 2008 and Austin Conservatory of Theater in 2011. She has designed costumes for Summer Youth Theatre and VORTEX since 2007. She has also designed costumes and makeup for diverse companies including ethos, Different Stages, Indianapolis Civic Theatre, Austin Lyric Opera, Westlake High School, Theatre at the J, St. Stephen’s High School, LASA/LBJ High, McCallum High School, and kidsActing. Ms. Martinez teaches acting, production, design, and technical theatre all around Austin.

UT's Madrigal Theatre Committee is holding auditions for its two original, student-written productions to debut this spring! For the first time ever, our committee is simultaneously producing an original play and an original musical, and we're looking for performers of all experience levels to cast these exciting new shows! Auditions for both shows will take place across three days in the Student Activity Center on campus. You must be a UT student to audition but do not need to be any particular major.

Beyond that, auditions for both the play and the musical will consist of cold reads. No monologue necessary.

The musical Agon tells the story of a high school class election that takes place in a dystopian future where nerds have taken control of society. The play has been picked from several exciting submissions, all of which are written by UT students. The Madrigal play will perform April 10 and 11 in the SAC Auditorium. The musical, Agon, performs April 18, 19, 20 in the SAC Auditorium as well.

But thanks to playboy Lumpkin, he’s mistaken by his prospective son in-law Marlow for an innkeeper, his daughter for the local barmaid. The good news is, while Marlow can barely speak to a woman of quality he’s a charmer with those of a different stamp. And so, as Hardcastle’s indignation intensifies, Miss Hardcastle’s appreciation for her misguided suitor soars. Misdemeanours multiply, love blossoms, mayhem ensues.

Auditions in La Grange, Bastrop and Brenham For the Musical "Heart of the Tin Trunk, April 23 - 26"

Backstage, Inc., is pleased to announce auditions for the 2012 production of Heart of the Tin Trunk, a large scale historical musical performing July 27 - August 5 at the 850-seat Concert Stage at the Festival Institute in Round Top. For this second annual staging we are looking for actors, singers and dancers of all shapes, and ages. This year, we will be holding open auditions in Bastrop, Brenham, and La Grange. Acting/Singing Auditions will be from 6-8:00 pm in the small studio. Please prepare 16 bars and a monologue. An accompanist will be provided. If you do not have anything prepared, we will have sides and songs available there for you to perform.

Auditions and Upcoming Competition: Georgetown's Got Talent, Georgetown Palace, June 17

The Georgetown Palace Theatre will host, live on stage,Georgetown's Got Talent, the semi-finals of a regional competition open to children and adults of all ages and talents. The competition will take place Sunday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Palace Theatre, 810 S. Austin Avenue (click for map)

Auditions will take place in May and June at several Georgetown venues, including All Things Kids, Uptown Social, Ken’z Guitars, Roots Bistro, Mel’s Lone Star Lanes and A Premium Blend Music Studio. Each location will select the winners of their audition event who will then go on to the semi-finals at The Palace Theatre. The Master of Ceremonies of the night will present the performances to the audience, and a panel of judges will be on stage evaluating the 16 acts. The judges will have the task of selecting 6 finalists at the end of the evening. Tickets will be available to watch this live show at The Palace.

Videos of the 6 finalist performances will be placed on line, with the final winner to be determined by the highest number of online votes received during the 2-week period following the live show. The winner will receive a $1000 cash prize as well as a professional video shoot – this audition video will be submitted to the “America’s Got Talent” production team to be considered for their 2013 season.

New Company, Upcoming Auditions: Austin Theatre Project and Corpus Christi by Terrence McNally, April 21 - 22

Auditions: Alice in Wonderland by Austin Summer Musical for Children, May 5

Auditions for this year's show Alice in Wonderland are scheduled for Saturday, May 5 from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Boyd Vance Theatre in the George Washington Carver Museum. The museum and theatre are located at 1165 Angelina St, Austin, TX 78702, which will also be the location of the performances. (click for map)

Auditions will consist of script reading, choreographed steps, and singing. The artistic director is asking the applicant to prepare a 1-2 minute presentation that shows theatrical talents to their best advantage. There will be a couple of scripts to read if the auditioner chooses not to bring a preferred script. The choreographer will teach the applicant a small routine and watch the applicant perform it. The music director will have the applicant sing a song of his or her choice. The applicant may choose the song provided by the group or may bring one of his or her own. The music should be of a Broadway or pop style. There will be an accompanist available.

Note: Our cast consists of individuals who are graduating high school seniors and older who volunteer their time to be a part of this wonderful experience.

The Austin Summer Musical For Children is celebrating 25 years of performing free children's musical theatre by entertaining delighted children and their families with familiar stories, catchy music, lively choreography, and colorful costumes. The cast interacts with the audience during the performances and in the autograph line to provide the children with maximum exposure to live characters. With a cast of 12, the ensemble provides wonderful family fun for the Austin community.

Auditions for The Flame, a celebration of the Olympics, Sky Candy Aerial Arts Collective, April 1

Audition Notice: Sky Candy Aerial Arts Collective is looking for actors, aerialists, singers and artists with special skills to audition for The Flame. All demographics are welcome to audition.

The Flame is an original contemporary interpretation of the history, meaning and spirit of the Olympic flame. The audience will be taken on a journey from ancient Greece, when the flame was born, to modern day England as the torch arrives in London for the Olympic Games and takes the spirit of the Olympic games into the future. Produced by Sky Candy, directed by Andy Agne,The Flame will feature music composed by Chris Humphreys and dance & aerial choreography by Andy Agne.

Aerialists: Please bring a 3-5 min solo on Lyra, Trapeze, Aerial Straps. We also are looking for aerialists with a great singing ability in the apparatus.

Artists with Special Skills: Please come prepared to show your ability within a 3-5 min window.

Artists with disabilities are also encouraged to audition for a segment about the Paralympics.

All performers should bring a picture and a resume and be prepared to fill out a waiver, release form and questionnaire about your availability over the course of rehearsal and production period.

Show opens July 12th - closes July 27^th, one hour before the opening ceremony for the Olympics. There will be an Olympics opening party after the last performance. Rehearsals will start beginning of May for Aerialists and end of May for actors.

This April East x South East (EXSE) returns to channelAustin. Showcasing poets and spoken word artists, EXSE invites bards of all sorts to submit original work to be considered for broadcast. If selected to participate, performers will receive local exposure during an all-day, twenty-four hours showcase on April 27 in celebration of National Poetry Month.

College circles in the 1980's quickly adopted spoken word poetry, starting a new wave of performance arts--one that is powerful, emotional and definitely not shy. More than just rhyming, spoken word uses prose to express love, humanity, inspiration and worldly views. Acting as a present-day soapbox, spoken word artists embrace frank, unedited, unfiltered and often-taboo subjects--something channelAustin has never shied away from.

"All of us here at channelAustin are excited to mark our sixth year of producing EXSE Spoken Word. Karla Saldaña has done an amazing job working with the poet and spoken word artist community to bring together awareness and appreciation for this cultural homage to National Poetry Month, "Executive Director Linda Litowsky says. EXSE Spoken Word takes place every April as a part of National Poetry Month, dedicated to drawing attention to the importance of artistic expression, free speech and poetry, both of new and old forms. AUDITIONS will be held Saturday, April 14th starting at 2:00pm, Sunday, April 15th, starting at 6:00pm, with the dance portion on Monday April, 17th at 7:00pm. Auditions will at Georgetown Palace Theater at 810 S. Austin Ave in Georgetown (click for map). All types, ethnicities and sizes are encouraged to audition. The production runs June 29- July 29, 2012. Performances will be at the Georgetown Palace Theater Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. All rehearsals and performances will be held at the Palace Theater. Rehearsals will generally be held Monday through Thursday, from 7:00-10:00 pm, and Saturdays from 1:00-5:00 pm. However, it's possible that we will schedule rehearsals on some Sundays as well so we are asking for everyone's availability for the possible alternative times up front.

The Georgetown Palace Theater is a community theater and does not offer any financial compensation to actors.

Auditioners are asked to email their name and telephone number to: auditions@thegeorgetownpalace.org to sign up for the auditions on April 14th from 2-5pm, or April 15th from 6-9pm. (You must also be available on Monday, April 16th for the dance auditions)

AUDITIONS will consist of 3 parts:

1. A memorized monologue, no more than 1-2 minutes in length. This can be from any play, musical, movie, book, or personal experience. It must be memorized. While there are many ensemble roles with lots of dialogue, there are also many that have no lines at all. So, if you'd prefer not to perform a monologue, you can just perform a song and attend the dance portion of the audition. If you do not audition with a monologue, you will not be considered for a speaking role.

2. Please prepare 16 bars of a song from a musical that demonstrates your range. An accompanist will be provided, please bring a copy of your sheet music. Songs from the show are welcome as audition pieces, as well as any other stylistically appropriate tunes. You may also bring your own accompaniment on CD. However, please make sure there are no recorded vocals. You may NOT sing A cappella.

3. Dance: On Monday night, you will be taught a dance to be performed in small groups.

Every person in this show will dance, so you must attend the dance audition.

7:00pm - 7:45pm Kids - any shoes (ballet, jazz, sneakers)

7:45pm - 8:30pm Women - character or jazz shoes (sneakers are ok)

8:30pm - 9:15pm Men - any shoes (jazz, character, sneakers)

Do NOT come to this audition unprepared. It will be nearly impossible to consider you for a role if you do. You can save time on the audition days by downloading, printing, and filling out a copy of the audition form and conflict calendar. Auditions Postponed: Guest Artists for Brand New Theatre Company now March 21

UPDATE: Postponed to Wednesday because of severe weather warnings for Austin

Most of the recurring roles for BNTC's Radio Serial Podcast were filled during our previous auditions but now that the writing process is complete, we have lots of funny character parts that need to be cast. These roles would likely require actors to perform in only one or two episodes. There will only be two rehearsals per episode so the time commitment for most of the roles would be minimal (unless we cast you for multiple roles or the role of George). If you are interested in reading for any of the roles we have available, you are invited to attend an audition at the BNTC North Austin Studio, 8701 W. Parmer Ln., #1122 (click for map) this Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m.

One Ounce Opera announces spring auditions for classical singers on Sunday, April 1st from 1-4pm in Central Austin. Deadline for request is Friday, 3/30/12. Auditions scheduled as received, so apply early! Audition fee will be $20 cash, taken at the time of audition. Accompanist provided.

PrimaDonna Productions, Inc. and artist Claire Casseb will be conducting auditions for models on Wednesday, March 14, in San Antonio, Texas. We are looking for models who resemble the legends in Claire's "Glitter Series" (click to see examples at Claire's website).Models selected will be invited to participate as "living art" during Claire's art show this summer.

From movie stars to musicians, from Lucy to Liza, from Bettie Page to Brigitte Bardot, if you look like any of the legends in this series, you are invited to come audition!!!
