Shakespeare under the Stars EmilyAnn Wimberley

The EmilyAnn Theatre was founded to provide a permanent home for Shakespeare Under the Stars (SUS), now in its 23rd season (and its 14th season at the EmilyAnn). Shakespeare Under the Stars is a unique educational program for middle and high school students who study and perform one of Shakespeare's plays. Students audition in May and memorize their lines before they arrive in late July. All actors are of high school age or younger.

Students also select an area of technical theatre (set construction, costuming, or lighting) on which to focus. College interns and theatre professionals mentor students in acting and the technical theatre areas. With guidance from the artistic director and interns, students collaborate in the construction of the costumes and sets. When not working on their assigned technical area, students rehearse with their director, working on acting and the understanding of Shakespeare's plays. The 6-week experience culminates with the production of 12 performances of full-length plays.
