A soul evoking production brings to life Bertolt Brecht’s timeless story of Mother Courage and Her Children. Told through the eyes of a powerful ensemble, this condensed epic story packs a punch with Eric Bentley’s contemporary translation.
The cast and crew are comprised of Hutto High School students who embrace a sophisticated and mature approach to staging as the life of Mother Courage is recounted. A wandering peddler dependent on war tackles motherhood and survival but is frequently distracted seeking out the next sale and opportunity to line her own pockets. Audiences are challenged by the powerful silence of Kattrin, her daughter, in contrast to the brutality of war with the natural instinct of human survival. The question then becomes, is Mother truly courageous or a coward in her decisions as she places business before her children with real life consequences lingering.
Mother Courage and Her Children plays at the Rollins Studio Theatre at the Long Center For The Performing Arts on Saturday 26th May, 2pm & 7.30pm. Tickets are $10 for Children and $15 Adults. Proceeds will go towards the Theatre Department, allowing students to be awarded scholarship assistance to attend the State Thespian Convention.
