POSTPONED: I Married A Hobbit, Alex Garza at the City Theatre, March 17

POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE:

Alex Garza, in cooperation
with City Theatre, presents

I Married A Hobbit
a solo performance

I Married A Hobbit, written and performed by Alex Garza,

What's it about? It's a bunch of characters and monologues centered around dating and loveand all the joy, sorrow, and the chaos that goes along with all of it.

Alex Garza has put together a collection of stories and characters that look at romance, heartbreak, desire, and life-long commitment from the eyes of different people. In this 75 minute performance, he discusses his childhood crushes, including the girl who broke his heart in the second grade and turned him away from women forever. He also confesses his teenage obsession with TV heart throbs such as Sean Astin and Kirk Cameron.

Yes, the show's a little gay! Yes, the show uses a few bad words! But it's profanity with a purpose!!

Alex Garza has been acting professionally in and around the Austin area for several years. He has worked with various theatre companies and has also performed several of his own solo plays, including Pulse, which debuted at the Blue Theatre in May 2005. His other solo works include Abuelita's Christmas Carol and 2007’s Harry the Homeless Homosexual Explains the Meaning of Life. He has written several plays and performed stand-up comedy at various clubs in the Austin and San Antonio areas. He is a recipient of the B. Iden Payne Award.

Upcoming: Harry The Homeless Homosexual by Alex Garza at City Theatre, December 19 - 20

Found on-line:

Harry's Back! And this time he's roasting chestnuts over an open fire! Only the fire is outdoors because Harry is lacking in his own place. He is a man less one home!

Harry the Homeless Homosexual by Alex Garza
Saturday, December 19, 2009, 2:00 pm
Sunday, December 20, 2009, 8:30 pm

Admission $10.00

In this sequel to his 2007 City Theatre Performance, Alex Garza reprises the character of HARRY THE HOMELESS HOMOSEXUAL for his own holiday adventure. In this performance, the homeless gay guy continues to question his existence, he continues to search for some semblance of purpose in the universe,
and he continues to prove that he does indeed have a heart that beats and a life that matters. But this time, he does so during one of his favorite and most dreaded holidays...Christmas! In the style of those beloved Christmas TV specials, Harry reflects on his life, his past, his present, his future, with the help of some very
special guests. Tune in as Harry is joined by Oprah Winfrey, Catherine Zeta Jones, a certain newly elected President of the United States, his idol Olivia Newton-John, hopefully the Solid Gold Dancers. There may even be a special appearance by Amelia Earhart. Harry laughs, he cries, but most of all, he just wants to know that his holiday special will be loved by all and that as a homeless homosexual, he will leave some kind of legacy.

Abuelita's Christmas Carol, Alex Garza at City Theatre, December 13 - 21

Alex Garza’s photo for this funny, charming tribute might suggest to you a cross-dressing version of elfin Espy Randolph in Zach Theatre’s annual Santaland Diaries.

Not so. For Abuelita's Christmas Carol Alex does use a prop or two, including those wonderful fly-away glasses and a Christmas apron, but for almost all of the presentation he dresses as himself.

He's a bald-shaven, short, rounded man in an olive-colored pullover and jeans, with a wonderful, jumpy animation and the talent to embody nine characters, including himself, principally with shifts in voice and body language. As well as the pet pig, Agapito.
