This “silent theatre” adaptation of the 1920 German expressionist film directed by Robert Wiene, arguably the first horror movie, follows the disturbing murders in a small German town after a visit by the mysterious Dr. Caligari and his somnambulist Cesare. Filled with shadows, warped scenery, and bizarrely slanted scenes ranging from the annual fair to a madhouse, this staged classic film is haunting, beautiful, moody, and absurd.

Auditions for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, A Staged, Silent Adaptation by Sophia Bolles directed by Seth Larson, Wednesday, Dec. 12, 6-9 PM. Callbacks Friday, Dec. 14, 4-6:30 PM.

This "silent theater" adaptation of the 1920 German expressionist film,arguably the first horror movie, follows a story told by a tortured young man, Francis. The mysterious Dr.Caligari happens upon the town of Holstenwall during itʼs annual fair. After Dr. Caligari presents his “somnambulist”, Cesare, an otherworldyman who has spent his entire life asleep, a suspicious string of murders sets the town on edge. FIlled with shadows, warped scenery, and bizarrely slanted scenes ranging from the fairgrounds to a madhouse, this staged classic film is haunting, beautiful, moody and absurd.
