Conscience Hesitatus is the story of Will Davenport, a county correctional officer. One day, he is mysteriously called home from work. He rushes home to find his wife, Janet, having a breakdown and his children in danger.
While he is trying to put his life back together, he rents a room from a fellow corrections officer, but quickly finds that his new roommates are not going to help his situation. Randy Cole is friendly enough, but he doesn't seem to want to get involved. And Will soon learns that Dirk Mapleton, his new landlord, is not what he seems on the surface.
Additionally, Will must deal with Dr. Wolfe, the county psychologist who will determine whether he ever regains custody of his children.
