The White Elephant in the Room Party
October 30 at the Blue Theatre, 916 Springdale Road
Poison Apple Initiative announces its 2nd Annual Fundraiser, The White Elephant in the Room party to be held on October 30 at the Blue Theatre.
To kick off our most ambitious season to date, Poison Apple Initiative is hosting Austin’s largest (and possibly only) white elephant. Here's what you can expect:
- Mingling fueled by signature cocktails made with Tito's Handmade Vodka.
- A fabulous raffle for fabulous prizes from fabulous local vendors, merchants, and artists (including a to-be-created-on-site piece by Katie Rose Pipkin and prints by Joey Gidseg)
- Sneak-preview performances from PAI's up-coming season.
- Music and dancing.
- Tarot readings by Olivia Pepper.
- A confessional booth so you can clear the skeletons from your closets before Santa Claus comes.
- AND, of course, a white elephant swap.
For the uninitiated, a White Elephant goes something like this: participants place gifts in the center of the group and draw numbers. The first person picks a gift from the pile, and those with subsequent numbers choose to either pick a new gift or steal someone else’s. Nefarious plots are hatched, alliances are formed, and everyone walks (or hobbles) away with something.
The Poison Apple Initiative is an independently run local theatre company dedicated to the production of sharp, dark comedies by local and national artists. Through our participation in the FronteraFest Long Fringe, Mi Casa Es Su Teatro, and the ArtSpark Festival, we’ve garnered a reputation for giving audiences “a razor-edged experience, one with a vibration and intensity that no video or cinema is going to provide” (Austinlivetheatre.com). This fall we are embarking on our third, and most ambitious season yet. In November we’ll be producing Sheila Callaghan’s Crumble (Lay Me Down Justin Timberlake), followed in March by the premier of Sometimes Callie and Jonas Die by Artistic Director Bastion Carboni. We’ll close out the season in May with The Woyzeck Project, a re-imagining of the 19th Century play by Georg Buchner.
