Black comedies don't come much blacker than this cult favorite from 1972, and they don't come much funnier, either.
Self-destructive and needy, wealthy teenager Harold is obsessed by death. He spends his leisure time attending funerals, watching the demolishing of buildings, visiting junkyards, simulating suicides in an attempt to get attention from his indifferent, snobbish and ego centric mother, and having sessions with his psychologist.
When Harold meets anarchistic 79 year old Maude at a funeral, they become friends as she teaches him how to live life.
On the day of Maude's eightieth birthday, Harold has a surprise that will change everyone’s life forever...
