Manchild in the Wasteland is a coming of age play that takes the audience on a roller coaster ride beginning with Barton's drive to join the Peace Corps. Faced with the harsh realities of living in a rural village in West Africa, Barton must discover new reasons to stay and fight for what he believes in to finally become a part of the village.
Barton was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania, West Africa from 2001-2003. He debuted Manchild in the Wasteland in New York City in 2006 and has taken the show to both coasts for several years. He has performed Manchild locally at the Vortex and at the Carver.
