If there is one sure antidote to a long, hot summer, it’s laughter. And one of the theatre’s biggest all-time comedy hits is “The Seven Year Itch” by George Axelrod, although more fans may remember the Billy Wilder-directed, 1955 movie starring sultry Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell.
The titular phrase, which refers to declining interest in a monogamous relationship after seven years of marriage, has been used by psychologists for years. And the film contained one of the most iconic images of the 20th century – Monroe standing on a subway grate as her white dress was blown above her knees by a passing train.
