matinee performance at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 8
Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center, 600 River Street
As has been the custom every holiday season for the last 14 years, the Austin Latino Theater Alliance (ALTA) presents its production of the traditional pastorela in the auditorium of the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC). This year, in response to the success and positive feedback to the 2011 show; Miguel Angel Santana returns to write an original and humorous script, this time in the form of a Latin soap opera satire. Santana’s pen modernizes classic characters from the yuletide play -- from shepherds, demons, angels to pilgrims -- and brings them to life as the Shepard family (familia Pastor). They will go through a series of entertaining entanglements and funny situations, and will have to put aside their passions and weaknesses to undertake a special mission. The play is performed in Spanish with English surtitles and will run for two hours with a 15 minute intermission.
Under the direction of Alejandro Pedemonte, eleven enthusiastic actors will give life to this hilarious holiday comedy. The cast is composed of recognized actors such as Mario Zamora, Karla Longnion, Diego Villarreal, Anjanette Gautier and Trini Martinez, and debuting with ALTA: Mirta Marella, Barbara Mojica, Veronica Pomata, Juan Cuspinera, Monica Fossi and Alfonso Gutierrez.
The PastoreNovela is a comedy for the whole family! The performances run Thursdays through Saturdays, beginning November 30 and ending on December 15. All performances will be held at 8 pm; with the exception of Saturday December 8, with a matinee at 4pm and evening show at 8pm. General admission $ 18, Students, seniors and groups of over 10 $13.
ALTA will join the Posada celebration organized by LupeARTE , to be held on Wednesday December 12 at 6pm at the MACC. The PastoreNovela will start at 8 pm and your admission ticket for this performance will be a nonperishable food donation to benefit the Food Bank at El Buen Samaritano.
