Auditions for two actors for Little Mother: a paid performance opportunity

Little Mother Katie Green Cruel Company Austin TXKatie Green of Cruel Company is holding auditions for the revised, expanded premiere of her 2012 Frontera Fest workshop of Little Mother to be produced on the outdoor stage at The Yard @ The VORTEX March 6-9 (Break for SXSW/Spring break) and March 21-24. Participants must hold March 27-29 available in case of rain make-up dates. Cast and crew positions are paid.

Little Mother is the story of a young woman who must prostitute herself to provide for her paralyzed husband and newborn child. In order to escape her bleak circumstances, Little Mother develops a rich inner life—the love story of an elephant and rooster—with echoes from her past. Will she succumb to her own fantasies, or prevail through reality? Little Mother is a multi-media silent film for the stage told through physical acting, shadow puppetry, text, and live musical performance of an original score.

Roles to be filled:
RING MASTER: male, late 20’s – late 40’s, the ring master of the circus Little Mother once performed in. He is pragmatic and cold with a weakness for young girls.
STRONG MAN: male, 25 – early 40’s, Little Mother’s husband. Formerly the strong man of a circus, now paralyzed. He is protective and kind, and would be devastated if he knew his wife’s profession.

“After not being blown away by anything at this Frontera Fest, a thirty-minute silent piece has turned me into a blubbering mess. Well done all of the extremely talented people behind Little Mother.” –Ryan Johnson, Austin Lifestyle Magazine

There will be only 2-3 rehearsals in January, and three rehearsals/week in February (Tues, Wed, and Thurs). Tech week is the first week of March.

New audition requirements: Please prepare EITHER a 2-minute monologue OR a 1-2 minute non-verbal, physical story. You may bring your own music. Please emphasize character and objective, and use your body primarily for storytelling. If you choose to do a monologue, be prepared to improvise some physical acting upon direction. No preparation is necessary, however. Auditions will take place at SPACE recording and rehearsal studios (Address: 7915 Manchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78745) from 8:00-10:00pm on Thursday, December 12. If this time doesn’t work for you, email me, and we may be able to work out an alternate date and time. Please email Katie (katiegreen444@gmail.com) your headshot and resume to sign up for a 10-minute slot. Scripts will be emailed prior to auditions.

We are looking for actors, aerialists, and other circus artists to collaborate with us and perform in this exciting show!
'Cosmicomics' will run June 20th-29th 2014 at the Rollins Theater, with bi-weekly workshops starting as early as November and rehearsals starting in late April. Audition times are as follows:

Friday November 1st 8-10 pm - Saturday November 2nd 4-10 pm - CALLBACKS Sunday November 3rd noon-4pm

'Cosmicomics' is an aerial theatre adaptation of Italo Calvino's beloved collection of short stories. In the words of the director, "'Cosmicomics' will draw from the aesthetics of silent film, commedia dell’arte and turn-of-the-century circus arts to tell these stories of climbing ladders to the moon, the love-life of the last living dinosaur, and why the ultimate answer to the question “Why are we here?” just might be “pasta.”
If you are interested in auditioning, please e-mail Joanna at joanna@skycandyaustin.com and specify which day and time works best for you.

¡CARPA! A new play by Billy Muñoz

Jump-Start Performance Co.
Playwright(s): Billy Muñoz

It is the 1930's. A travelling circus has stopped in a dusty East Texas town. A mysterious clown, an unhappy mermaid, a fortune-teller with a true gift and other assorted performers have no idea that their entire way of life is dying. Welcome to the end of the circus... it's going to be a magical show.
¡CARPA! by Billy Muñoz is a bittersweet exploration of the old-school travelling tent show as a metaphor for inevitable endings. The Sterling Houston Theater will be transformed into the carpa itself. Audience members will experience an interactive performance & video installation on and around the stage, viewing side-show acts (including fire-eating & aerial arts) and interacting with the performers, who have secrets to keep and intentions that are occasionally sinister.
Cast:
Sheila Sisler-Currie, Sandy Dunn, Dino Foxx, Billy Muñoz, Amanda Silva & S.T. Shimi.
Co-Directed by Laurie Dietrich & Marisela Barrera.
Location: 108 Blue Star, in the Blue Star Arts Complex at the corner of S. Alamo and Probandt, San Antonio, Texas, 78204
