Auditions in Lockhart for Who's on First, Gaslight Baker Theatre, July 29 & 30

Gaslight Baker Lockhart TX

AUDITIONS Who's on First Jack Sharkey Gaslight Baker Lockhartfor Who's on First By Jack Sharkey

Sunday, July 29 at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 30 at 7:00 p.m. Directed by Lori Z. Cordova; plays October 5 - 20

Casting: 2 men and 2 women - NO prior stage experience necessary - Comedic timing and multiple accents are a plus

A zany comedy based on magic and misconceptions. Think Groundhog Day with accents. Five people are doomed to repeat the same senario multiple times, but each time has a twist - the characters are the same but in different circustances which leads to a different ending.

Take a husband, a wife, a lover and a friend. Add a strange lamp, a gun and a rubber chicken plus a party that begins at 8 p.m. and then again at 8 p.m. and you have this "Nightmare Comedy." Four people find themselves relining one horrible hour over and over as themselves, as Japanese citizens, as British aristocrats, as gangsters, and almost anything else you can think of. Is it all an accident? Or is their dilemma part of someone's fiendish plan? A labyrinth of hilarity exits builds to a shocker of an ending to this wacky, wacky show. he Stage Manager welcomes the audience into the theater as he introduces the people and places of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. Grover’s Corners is the perfect picture of an American town before urbanization – automobiles are a novelty, everyone is up in each other's business, and milk is still delivered fresh every morning.

After that introduction to the town, the Stage Manager zeroes in on two neighboring families: the Gibbs family and the Webb family. Each household has two children (a boy and a girl). We witness some childish interactions between Emily Webb and George Gibbs. The two are friends. By the second act, three years have passed, and friendship has blossomed into love. George and Emily are about to get married. The third act takes place in the town cemetery. Emily has died in childbirth, and she joins other deceased members of Grover’s Corners. As soon as the funeral is over, Emily realizes that she can relive her life, and decides to return to the morning of her twelfth birthday – despite warnings from her fellow dead that it’s a terrible idea. Emily soon realizes that they’re correct. Death has brought Emily a heightened awareness of life; it is too painful for Emily to watch living people who take their time for granted. Emily returns to the cemetery where George is crying over her grave.

A unique and imaginative theatre piece comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.

All is fair in love? Even murder? That's the question posed by this light and funny suspense comedy about a love triangle in a Howard Johnson Motor Inn. In the first episode, Mitchell, an obvious and commonplace dentist who sees himself as the dashing, heroic type and Arlene, a middle aged "Femme Fatale" of sorts, plan to murder her husband Paul, a blundering used car salesman.

In the second episode, having discovered that Mitchell has been unfaithful, Arlene allies herself with Paul to do away with Mitchell.

Finally, in the third episode, the two men, feeling foolish and betrayed themselves, join forces against Arlene. This murder attempt, like the others, meets with hilarious disaster.

Lend Me A Tenor Ken Ludwig Gaslight Baker Theatre Lockhart TexasThis night in September of 1934 is the biggest in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. World famous tenor Tito Morelli is to perform Otello, his greatest role, at the gala season opener. Saunders, the harried General Manager, hopes this will put Cleveland on the cultural map. Morelli is nowhere to be found; when he finally arrives drunk, it is too late for any rehearsal. Through a hilarious series of mishaps, 'Il Stupendo' is given a double dose of tranquilizers which mix with the booze he has consumed and he passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he is dead. What to do?

Saunders coaxes Max into Morelli's costume, intending to fool the audience with this fake 'Il Stupendo', blackface and all. Nervous amateur Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli revives and dresses for his second act. We now have two Otellos in costume and two women (in questionable stages of dress), each thinking she is with the real 'Il Stupendo'.

What follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identity, farcical plot twists, double entendres, innuendos, and constant entrances and exits through many doors as the farce spins out of control onstage and off.

What happens if the cook is mistaken for the mistress and the mistress is unable to cook? An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

Little does our heroine, the heiress Merry Ann Sweet, know that she is the intended victim of the villainous Snively Swine's kidnapping plot. With his partner, the slinky and exotic Aracnia Webb, Swine disguises himself as Sir Reginald Rottentot, a British nobleman, in order to gain the confidence of Merry and her flapper friends, Mitzi, Ritzy and Ditzy. But Merry falls for the handsome waiter, Cary De Mille. Poor Cary—he loves Merry, too, but ship's policy says he can't get involved with a passenger.

Must these two ships pass in the night? Not if Merry's flapper friends can help it! Together, they transform Merry from a shy young lady into a red-hot jazz baby. Meanwhile, Swine launches his kidnap scheme. It's sink or swim for Cary. Can he save Merry and stay out of Aracnia's clutches?
