30 DATES IN 60 MINUTES, Lucky Chaos Theater Project at the Salvage Vanguard, June 1 - July 13, 2013

Lucky Chaos Theatre Austin TX

presents

Extended- July 12 and 13, 8 p.m.
30 Dates in 60 Minutes Lucky Chaos Theater Project Austin TX

30 Mini Plays about the good, bad and downright ugly of dating in the 21st century!

Let’s face it – dating can be hard! The show takes a look at the ups, downs, the ridiculous, the surprising, and just plain weird aspects of dating in the 21st century.

All skits are written by the ensemble performers based on personal stories. The ensemble is made up of performers of Asian descent and Hispanic descent but we hope people of all backgrounds can appreciate our take on the trials and triumphs of dating!

The skits were collaboratively created through the 30/60 format started by The Neofuturists theatre company in Chicago (who encourage the use of their process). A key part of this process is honesty among the writers/performers. Ensemble attempts to perform all 30 plays in 60 minutes. To determine which skit will be presented, the audience calls out a number from 1-30.

Luck determines your ticket price! $5 + what you roll at the door (roll of 6 gets you in free!). Dating is all about luck!

Normal Like Us! The Depression Chronicles

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 p.m. at the Salvage Vanguard Theater.

Normal Like Us - The Depression Chronicles Lucky Chaos Austin TX

The show will continue on the first Saturday of the month until August (April 6, May 4, June 1, July 6, and August 3.)

Collaborative. Experimental. Music. Drama. Humor. Yea, we are doing this! Come experience it from our point of view.

How can someone convey the experience of living with depression and do it in a way that is both easy to understand and entertaining? Leng Wong, producing director of Lucky Chaos Theater, set out to do just that with Normal Like Us! The Depression Chronicles. The show is a collaborative, experimental production of performers with first-hand experience. It combines humor, music, and drama to present the realities of life with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions.

The performers in this ensemble-based work offer views from the inside. Most cast members are Austin artists who perform regularly and are trained in voice, theater, and improvisation. Some cast members are not trained performers, and will be appearing on stage for the first time to share their experiences. The vignettes use music, humor and drama to illustrate their personal perspective of the subject. The show includes an original mini-musical written by Austin musicians/songwriters Jeff Luna and Eddie Lehwald. Live accompaniment by Eddie!

Lucky Chaos Theatre Project Austin Let's Talk January 2013

LuckyChaos kicks off its 2013 season at our new home Salvage Vanguard Theater (SVT)! With monthly shows ranging from comedy to dramatic, scripted to improvised, we are taking chances and hope you join us in our journey.

Click for tickets at Eventbrite ($6.12)

We kick off our 2013 season with Let’s Talk! followed by a mixer! Let’s Talk is a fun ‘Talk and Show’ where we chat with our guests and catch a glimpse of the person behind the art, and then they will treat us to a sample of their work. Come join us and talk to our guests after in the Meet&Greet, and stay for the LuckyChaos Kickoff Mixer! We would love to talk to you about our upcoming shows and the inspiration behind them.

Talk show guests are:

DaXun Zhang is a double-bassist who’s toured with YoYo Ma, the celebrated cellist. Daxun has won numerous international awards as well as performed extensively with prominent orchestras nationally and internationally. "If the bass is finally to produce a headliner, the instrument can have no better champion than Zhang," (The Washington Post, March 2005) Daxun has graciously agreed to perform some of his favorite pieces!

Yen Tan, previously featured on the frontpage of the Austin Chronicle, is a professional graphic designer who designs the most kickass and sought-after posters. His newest feature film, Pit Stop, is premiering in the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2013.

Beili Liu is a multidisciplinary artist who specializes in time and process based installations using materials ranging from thread, paper, incense, wood, salt to water. She has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. Her art is “materially simple but metaphorically rich” (Art in America Review, April 2009).

Anuradha Naimpally has been performing worldwide for over 30 years.and is widely respected as a performer and teacher of the Classical Indian dance technique Bharata Natyam. She has received awards and accolades nationally and internationally. We will be treated to a sample of this expressive and vibrant artform.

Jingqun Shao
is a master teacher of the classical Chinese instrument Guzheng. She’s spent over 40 years mastering this instrument, studying under the tutelage of prominent masters in China and in later years, performing and teaching around the world. Her students have won awards and she’s developed over the years, her own signature style of playing. Come for this rare opportunity to see her perform a piece for us.

The world premiere of the world's first Wasserstein Prize winning play, from Japanese-American Austin local Linda Ramsey. A technicolor tale of ads and auras. Yoshiko sees the world in colors. Her daughter Jackie sees it in cheese factories. Elliot sees the world through the eyes of two hundred children. And Yoshiko's clients all see it through the prism of her fine-feathered, tanuki-ridden home. Lovingly performed at Casa de Luz, "a place that houses the light," and a great place to get some fresh, healthy dinner before the show.
