Lakeway Players TX

present

Side By Side By Sondheim

by Linda Bradshaw

Never had the time, opportunity or money to attend a Stephen Sondheim musical? Not familiar with anything by Stephen Sondheim? Never met a “gen u ine” Broadway performer? Well, let’s remedy all those issues right now. You probably know more Sondheim songs than you realize. Stephen Sondheim is a renowned American composer and lyricist known for his contributions to musical theater for over 50 years. He’s won an Academy Award, 8 Tony Awards, 8 Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theater, awarded in 2013. Heard of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, “Company”, “Follies”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Into the Woods”, “West Side Story” or “Gypsy”? There you go, you do indeed know Sondheim.

On November 7th, 8th, and 9th, The Lakeway Players present “Side By Side By Sondheim” and you will be able to hear songs from a wide variety of his musicals, as well as informative and comedic tidbits about the shows and songs. The performers include some of your favorite veteran Lakeway Players such as Linda Bradshaw, Annette Brown, Barbara Calderaro, Lee Dilday, Mark King, Theresa Lingren, Brandy Meeks, Cathy Rose, and Bill Walker. Joining the Players this year will be Linda Durkin (a veteran actress and director who came to Austin from Chicago in 2000), and the fabulous Rudy Roberson, a Broadway actor, singer, dancer, and teacher, who was with the touring cast of “The Lion King”.

Leading this fearless troupe are Cathy Rose (Director/Choreographer), Barbara Calderaro (Producer /Musical Director), Anita Mapes (Assistant Director), Austin Nichols (Stage Manager), and Nancy Nichols Newton (Accompanist). Tickets are on sale at the Lakeway Activity Center (512-261-1010), and the $15 purchase price includes set ups, soft drinks, and munchies. BYOB, food & designated driver J . Doors open at 6:30, and the show starts at 7:30 PM. We may not be Broadway, but we've borrowed one of their performers and we're a LOT closer. Songs, Costumes, Dancing, and a veteran Broadway performer….does it get much better than that?
