Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farm-house, whilst his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu Chef to prepare gourmet delights, and has even invited his best friend, Robert, along - to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? Right? Well.... Suppose Robert turns up not realizing quite why he has been invited. Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers, and when she sees Robert, they determine that she will NOT be leaving for the weekend. Suppose the Chef has to pretend to be the mistress and the mistress, who is unable to cook, has to pretend to be the Chef. Suppose everyone's alibi gets confused with everyone else's. Suppose there’s another surprise guest. Simmered together, you have a delicious evening full of hilarious confusion as everyone tries to blend together all the improvised arrangements at break-neck speed.

Way Off Broadway Community Players will be holding open auditions on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 7pm for the 3rd show of our 17th season, The Desk Set by William Marchant, and is being directed by Geoff Rake. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. There are roles for 6 women and 4 men, age range from 20’s – 40’s.

A smoothly running network reference department in a large company, headed by Bunny and her team of women who have an encyclopedic knowledge of facts and figures, quickly answers people’s inquiries. The big boss, trying to find ways to run the company better, faster, and more efficiently, hires an outside source to help. Enter the efficiency expert who says they need to install Emma, a super computer, who will do the work of many people, soon replacing entire departments. But an Electronic Brain cannot best Human Brains. In a game of wits, Bunny and her co-workers cause Emma to blow fuses which renders the computer powerless. Here is a telling comedy rich in hilarity for anyone who has ever worked in an office…and has done battle with the machines.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA, Way Off Broadway Community Players, November 1 - 23, 2013

WAY OFF BROADWAY COMMUNITY PLAYERS ANNOUNCE:

THE WORLD PREMIERE PRODUCTION OF “SHERLOCK HOLMES: A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA”

The play, adapted from the short story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is written by Rick White, a long time member, a frequent performer, and former president of Way Off Broadway. Rick is directing this premiere performance.

Opening Night is Friday, November 1, 2013. The show runs Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm through Saturday November 23, 2013. Our Sunday Matinee is on November 10 at 3pm. Adult tickets are $20.00; Seniors, Active Military, and Students are $15.00 and Children’s Tickets are $10.00.

Bring in a book, paperback or hard cover, and get a free box of popcorn. Books will be donated to local organizations supporting reading and to local law enforcement entities for distribution within jails and prisons.

The Story: Dr. Watson stops by Baker Street and finds Holmes in the early throes of a new case. Holmes is waiting for a gentleman whose arrival was announced by a cryptic note. The man calls on him that evening, wearing a mask to conceal his identity. He explains that he represents the King of Bohemia, and has a delicate situation that must be handled quickly and discretely. The King was involved with a woman named Irene Adler. Now that the King is to be married to someone else, Miss Adler has threatened to send a photograph to the King’s fiancée revealing their romance. Holmes agrees to take the case and manages to draw the reluctant, but excited, Watson into the fray. Has Holmes gotten himself in too deep this time? Is Irene Adler a more difficult adversary than even Professor Moriarity? The answers Holmes discovers will have a lasting effect on his psyche.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty- two years in the suburbs. Greg's career is winding down, while Kate's career is ramping up. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park -or that has found him-bearing only the name "Sylvia" on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn't understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of both their lives

This fresh approach to the ever-popular western comedy takes place at the turn of the century in the notorious Hole-in-the-Wall country. When the good and honest Ma and Pa Fritter set up shop in the midst of this den of rustlers and outlaws and a wagon load of ladies takes refuge there from attacking Indians, problems erupt all over the place. One rollicking scene follows another ’til Horace, our brave but occasionally clumsy good guy, and Slick Mason, the scoundrel, meet in the final, hilarious show-down and shoot-out... at Hole-in-the-Wall. Add to this a wagon load of ladies taking refuge from attacking Indians and the swaggering Cattle Kate and it’s an evening of western fun and frolic.

The annual melodrama will be accompanied by raffles, 50/50 drawings, a silent auction, and of course, much cheering the hero, booing the villain, and popcorn throwing!!!

Way Off Broadway Community Players will be holding open auditions on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. for our 12th Annual Melodrama and Fundraiser, Shoot Out at Hole in the Wall by Shubert Fendrich, and is being directed by Karen Miller. Way Off Broadway Community Players will be holding open auditions on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 7pm for the farcical comedy Fox on the Fairway by Ken Ludwig, which is being directed by Debbie Bishop. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. There are roles for 3 women and 3 men. A tribute from Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, Leading Ladies, Moon Over Buffalo) to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s, The Fox On the Fairway takes audiences on a romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club, including the heated rivalry between the heads of the Quail Valley Club, and the Crouching Squirrel Golf and Racquet Club, who are fighting over a golfer they both want to make them the winner in the annual golf tournament. 

Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it's a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers' classics. A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man's eternal love affair with… golf. This is a wonderfully manic satire not just of the golf world, but of human nature…full of the idiosyncrasies that are hidden, just barely, inside us all.

Psychiatrist Victor is financially pressed between the rental of his posh office apartment and his fiancée’s expensive tastes. A colleague has written a best-selling case history book and is now rolling in royalties. Good friend Parker has rejected Victor's similar work because the public is tired of such things preferring torrid fiction. Needing cash, Victor reluctantly takes on a new patient who, due to love frustrations, is grinding out a rip roaring sex life. By mistake, Victor’s nurse gives the patient's manuscript to Parker, believing it to be Victor's work. Suddenly Victor has an enormous advance royalty check, a Book of the Month Club selection and a potential Pulitzer prize. When he discovers it’s his patient's confidences and not his casebook that has saved the day, Victor determines to keep his patient crazy until he dreams up the final chapter. The hilarious comedy will be presented at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays from Nov 2 through Nov 24 with a 3 pm matinee added on Sunday, Nov 11. Pete and George are old friends. In fact, such good old friends that George has been Pete’s best man at both of his weddings. Pete, now happily married to Sarah, is appalled when George arrives with the news that his first wife Jessica was not killed in a climbing accident as they had thought but is alive and well and keen to resume her life with Pete! This unexpected revelation leads to a series of hilarious situations as Peter and George try to find a way out of this desperate plight without upsetting either of Pete’s wives or his second wife’s powerful mother.
