Playhouse Offers Spring Break Theatre Camp

Playhouse Smithville announces a Spring Break Theatre Camp for ages 7 to 14. The workshop will produce Flinging Fractured Fairytales, written by Playhouse Artistic Director john daniels, jr. (sic). The show is based on the classic Fractured Fairytales from the famous cartoon series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. The camp is March 14 to 18, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be morning and afternoon sessions with a one hour break for lunch. The show will be presented to the public Saturday March 19 at 2:00 pm. The cost for the camp is $75.00 per student.

The camp consists of acting, movement, voice, improvisation and singing workshops. There will be morning and afternoon sessions that include all of the show rehearsals. Parents will be required to provide simple costumes for the show.

“Our production camp encourages parents to participate in the production as well. Parents may be in the show as actors or technicians at no charge and are welcome to join in all of the workshops and rehearsals,” says Playhouse Executive Director April Daniels. “The sessions will be Monday through Friday from 10am to Noon and from 1pm to 3pm. Actors will bring their lunches.

“Theatre is fun,” says john, “And we want everyone to enjoy it. For the last four years I have been writing and directing plays for young actors and their parents in Austin and it has been a blast. In fact, Flinging Fractured Fairytales is one of the scripts I wrote two years ago for my Austin young actors and their parents and this will be its third production. The show has singing and dancing and many jokes. All facets of production are work, but they are all fun too. Our camp will be fun.”

The number of participants in the camp is limited. Space is available now. Visit www.playhousesmithville.com to register or a call 512 360-7397 for more info.
