Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. 

As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of "teamwork," rally 'round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB is the story of these five unforgettable women—a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever… 
 
CAST
The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos. Played by Alana Adams.
Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized and "perfect" life, and continues to be the group's leader. Played by Monica Miller.
Lexie, pampered and outspoken, is determined to hold on to her looks and youth as long as possible. She enjoys being married—over and over and over again. Played by Alicia Moses Gust.
Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is a career dynamo. But her victories in the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations of her personal life. Played by Tammy McGary.
Sweet and eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood that takes them all by surprise! Played by Lita Alberts.

Enter the School for Villains and Mayor Emma Wroids with a Bounty Hunter and Sheriff Major Tom to boot. Egads! Something must be done! 

Get your throwing arms loose - the popcorn is popping at the Playhouse for the 3^rd annual Smithville Melodrama, Egads!  Playhouse veteran actor A. J. Fuex takes her turn under the hail of popcorn and the roar of the boos to be Megan d’Baecon the newest villain in mythical Smithville.  “There’s never enough A.J.” jokes Artistic Director and Egads! playwright john daniels, jr. (sic), “It is so much fun to write for actors who embody the roles so thoroughly.”

“At the Playhouse there is always more to the story,” says Executive Director April Daniels. Egads! is the last show of our 3^rd season.  We want to thank all of the actors and audience for an exciting year.”

Playhouse Smithville’s 3^rd Season, called “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”, has been its most ambitious offering to date.  Beginning with The Rocky Horror Show and 1984 through rock and roll history with Come Together followed by Sam Blasco’s Randell McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and then Matt Torrez’s Mac the Knife in the 3 Penny Opera, this season has been one surprise after another.  What’s next?   “A Season of Love,” sighs April Daniels.  “Love, yeah that’s it,” says April’s husband and relentless play dictator john daniels, jr..  Meanwhile…

Playhouse Smithville presents Come Together (a splendid musical perspective of the '60's) written and directed by Artistic Director john daniels, jr. (sic). A live, five piece, rock and roll band lead by Musical Director Matt Torrez drives the beat for a cast of twenty-five. This show celebrates the music, art, fashion, film, innocence, and the loss of innocence that is the 1960's. Rebellion’s A Brewin’ in Texas!

The third in the Texas series by Del Shores, “Daughters of the Lone Star State”, directed by AJ Fuex, is a comedic, but biting, look at racial and socio-economic challenges to the traditional norm in a small Texas town.

It’s Christmas Eve in the small West Texas town of Lowake. Members of the Daughters of the Lone Star State are holding their annual recruitment drive. Their membership is dying out, literally, and they must replenish their numbers.

Chaos and comedy erupt as recruitees arrive that don’t quite fit the charter members’ preconceived notions of what Daughter should be.

Equality and justice triumph as some new, and old, members rebel against the status quo.

Fuex brings her vision of this performance to life with a brilliant cast of actors portraying an odd, but strangely endearing, cross-section of small-town Texas.

Liddy Bell Cartwright,(Alana Adams) s is the opinionated and domineering President of the Daughters.
Clara Bell Ivey, (Lisa Holcomb) Liddy Bell’s sister, is the ultimate follower.
Darlene Parsons (Joyce Leatherwood) plays the wounded, rich, but functional alcoholic.
Lola Faye Barnes (Alicia Gust) a former poor woman who just struck oil, willing to serve.
Lois Wheelis (Lia Nelson) is a cranky charter member who speaks her mind.
Ima Jean Winkler-Gomez is a poor young pregnant woman, with the need to belong.
Vergie Hopkins (Tammy McGary) is a loud, tough talking, former rodeo queen who likes to stir things up.
Doll Johnson (AJ Fuex), strong – but knows her place, is Darlene’s maid.
Sharon Johnson (Emilie Taylor) is Doll’s bold and angry daughter who has had enough.

Disco, funk and plaintive tunes abound in this campy comedy of aliens visiting Smithville, zombiefication of the natives and a traveling troubador who can't stop singing Neil Diamond tunes. Coupled with flying body parts during a rousing rendition of It's Raining Men, this should prove to be a truly funky dinner date.

Playhouse Smithville presents a dramatic one-act presentation of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel 1984. The party slogans loom large over the residents of Oceania: War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. And Big Brother is always watching you. When Winston Smith meets a beautiful and young new co-worker named Julia he decides the way of rebellion for him is through love.

Thought Is Free is an original one-act comedy about a young woman hosting a first meeting of a newly formed book club. The members start off by each giving their own insight on the relevance of Orwell's vision but the evening takes an unexpected turn once a few secrets come to light.

Smithville is in peril again and the Playhouse is at fault. It’s popcorn throwing time for the Second Annual Playhouse Smithville Melodrama: Balderdash! Come see who’s gettin’ tied to the railroad tracks, cheer the hero, BOO the villain, be astonished at the beauty of the damsel in distress and gasp at the audacity of a northerner. Drink the town coffee at your own risk!

Popcorn Melodrama at Playhouse Smithville

Jo and Tom Watts play the town doctor and the sheriff who are “sweet on each other” in the mythical town of Smithville, part of the 2^nd Annual Playhouse Smithville Melodrama, Balderdash! Artistic Director john daniels, jr. (sic) writes and directs the popcorn potboiler and “hoss” opera. “Doing this show is truly a labor of love, especially when twenty-five actors want to be in the production,” says daniels, “and it is so much fun too.”

Executive director of the Playhouse, April Daniels, who plays Texanna Hanna-the owner of the bank, adds, “It’s playtime at the Playhouse. The melodrama is a present for our actors and our audience. This is the end of our second season and we are all still having as much fun as the day we started.” During the first two seasons the Playhouse has produced fifteen shows. Balderdash! concludes a season that started with Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Many of the actors in Balderdash! were in the Shakespeare as well.

Kayla Jo Williams continues her streak of acting in every Playhouse production with her portrayal of Roxi Cane the pistol packing heroine. She is joined by other damsels in distress, Bonnie Watts and Shelby Brown playing the Cache twins.

Cheering the heroes may be complicated. There is Tom Watts’ quintessential Sheriff, Danne Abshur’s Detective from New Jersey, and Brandon Flippo’s silent film star hero.

Booing and throwing popcorn at the villain will be much easier as last year’s hero Brad Wilbourn is this year’s villain, Joe Bad T’Bone. But wait, he’s not the only one you can boo. Pelt with popcorn Lia Nelson’s Vermina Bartles, the town lawyer turned villain, and her wanna be beau Bob D’Burgler played by Steve Haight.

That is only eleven out of twenty-five characters in this town. 

 Playhouse regulars, A. J. Feux, Jim Sanders, Belinda Parsons, Geoffrey Goerlitz, Charla May Cason and Megan Mossman add personality to the mix along with relative new comers, Sydney Hight, McKenzie Miller, Kya Lambert, Severn Watts, and Ashley Vaughn. 

 Returning to the Playhouse stage is Cheyenne Lambert playing the Mayor/school teacher/masked do-gooder. Performing for the first time at the Playhouse is Matthew Haight as young Maverick Lawton. The cast is rounded out by Pam Latham as Elizabeth Smith, founder of the town… maybe.

Come have fun, boo, cheer, hiss, sigh, throw popcorn and laugh. Celebrate the Playhouse’s second season with, “Balderdash!”

Welcome to the Sweet Home Boardinghouse, where life is anything but normal. Miss Harriet runs a clean, cozy home with the help of the none-too-bright and perpetually terrified Tweenie, and accompanied by as zany a cast of boarders as you are likely to meet.

There's Mr. Richards, the poet who practices dying to spark his inspiration. Gladys Klotz is a taxidermist who has a direct line to the spirit world and prefers her men stuffed, while Martha Willis has every imaginable illness, from leprosy to pneumonia to heart palpitations... and loves every minute of it. Poor Hortense tries her best to keep up with Ivy, a free spirited "artist" who enjoys painting people's faces, whether they want to be painted or not.

Finally, the suave and mysterious Dirk Shadow and his sister Veronica have just arrived on the scene to hunt for Captain Schnook's pirate treasure buried in the basement... or is it really just something left over from dinner? Leave it to the clever and ever-vigilant Dr. Snifell to unravel the mystery that will have audiences laughing from beginning to end.
