And like real life, The Classic Theatre is going through a change of life. The management of the Blue Star Arts Complex has elected NOT to renew the Jump-Start Performance Co. lease. That means that The Classic Theatre may be in a new space for its 6th season. Regardless of where we perform, you will experience the professional quality that you have come to expect from The Classic Theatre of San Antonio.

Mamet at his very best, writing about small-time, cutthroat real estate salesmen trying to grind out a living by pushing plots of land on reluctant buyers in a never-ending scramble for their share of the American dream. The Vex presents a new twist to the traditionally all-male cast by converting a few of the characters to women, touching on current issues of female competition in male-dominated industries.

Auditions on Sunday, December 9th and Monday, December 10th 7-9pm BY APPOINTMENT ONLY at The Vex for Little Shop of Horrors at the Sheldon Vexler Theatre at 12500 N.W. Military Highway, San Antonio, Texas, 78231 (The Vex is located in the back of the building. Drive around to the left and follow signs to enter through the back doors.)(click for map). Little Shop of Horrors is an otherworldly musical satirization of sci-fi, b-grade movies set to the sounds of rock-n-roll, doo-wop, and mo-town.Seymour, a down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite. In the Vex version, Audrey II comes alive as a seductive woman. 

This romping musical by Ashman and Menken boasts “a gleeful 1960’s- pastiche score” that can be enjoyed by all generations. (New York Times)

• All roles are open and will be cast as volunteer positions.

PERFORMANCES May 9- June 9, 2013, Thursdays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 8:00pm, Sunday matinees at 2:30pm, and selected Sunday evening shows at 7:30pm. Call times are 90 minutes before curtain.

REHEARSALS will begin with a few meetings, read-throughs, and table work sessions in February or early March. Regular rehearsals will begin mid March.
• A typical Vex rehearsal schedule is Monday- Thursday 7pm-10pm. Friday and weekend rehearsals are scheduled as needed throughout the rehearsal period.
• The final two weeks and weekends of rehearsals include technical and dress rehearsals with the full company called.
