Auditions for FTC's Winter Musical Little Shop of Horrors will be held Monday and Tuesday December 16th and 17th at 7 pm at The Steve W. Shepherd Theater located at 1668 Hwy. 87s. All roles are available for auditions. Please prepare one song that best showcases your vocal ability. A CD player and pianist will be provided. Cold readings will follow vocal auditions. Attendance to both audition days is not mandatory. Performances for Little Shop of Horrors are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Feb. 21st-Mar. 9th 2014. Attendance at Crunch week rehearsal, Feb. 17th-20th and all performances is mandatory. The first read thru is scheduled for Jan. 6th and first rehearsal will be on Jan. 13th.

Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!

Characters Needed: LEAD ROLES: Audrey, Seymour, Audrey 2 voice, Mushnik, Orin, Ronette/Chiffon/Street Urchins, Audrey 2 puppeteers

Please prepare 2 song excerpts (16 bars/one verse + one chorus) -- one song from the character you are auditioning for and one song of your choosing that shows "what you can do" Please bring karaoke CD/ MP3 tracks and a monologue- a short prepared piece in the style of the character

LEAD ROLE NOTES: Audrey: Yes, we want to hear it; Suddenly Seymour should be your audition choice
Audrey 2 Puppeteer: no songs required, unless you are also interested in another character.

ENSEMBLE & CHORUS: 1 song excerpt, any song, any genre. Bring a karaoke track please.

Volunteer Positions for Zilker Theatre Production’s musical of Little Shop of Horrors

Please contact Zilker theatre productions at info@zilker.org or call us at 512-479-9491 for more information. The following is a list of volunteer opportunities. For more information about our organization, please visit www.zilker.org

Stage Crew Volunteers Stage Crew responsibilities may include setting up the stage, placing/striking the sets and props for the show. The crew also assists the actors with moving sets and props during the show’s scene changes. Some lifting may be required; however we can accommodate your needs. Call times usually start around 6:30. (Times will be arranged with the Stage managers) Training will be provided. We would need people starting June 27 – August 17, 6:30 – 11:00pm. We are flexible if people need to have certain nights off or can only work part of the summer.

Front of House Volunteers House Managing Crew is responsible for assisting the house manager with stuffing programs, handing out programs and welcoming patrons to the hillside. This crew will also assist the Concessions people with set up. This volunteer position is not required to be there the whole evening. We would need people July 12 – August 17, 6:30 – 10:30pm (every Thursday thru Sunday). We are flexible if people need to have certain nights or weekends off or only want to do part of the summer.

SummerStock Austin Moves to The Long Center for Upcoming Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors

SummerStock Austin (SSA) - the seasonal training program collaboration between St. Edward's University and Zilker Theatre Productions - starts its fifth season with a move to a new venue. This year’s summer stagings of Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors with be presented at Rollins Theatre at The Long Center.

Due to renovations to the Mary Moody Northen Theatre at St. Edward's University, SSA will have to move its performances to down the road to Austin’s newest center for the performing arts. The SSA program will remain a sponsored project of St. Edward's and Zilker Theatre Productions, and rehearsals, administrative offices and set construction will still remain at St. Edward’s.

For this year’s shows, SummerStock Austin has cast a 38 member company of college and high school performers and 10 technicians. The 22 college students come from St. Edward's University, Texas State University, Baylor University, AMDA and Juilliard School of the Arts.

High school participants come from eight different area schools including McCallum, Bowie, Dripping Springs, Westwood, McNeil, Cedar Park, Blanco, and Star Charter. More than 80 students auditioned and interview to be part of the fifth season.

UPDATE: review by "theatrelover" received as a comment on another post here, May 6: I just saw "Little Shop of Horrors" now playing at the Palace in Georgetown. Wow! One of the best shows plaing in this area. The gal playing Audrey is fabulous - her voice is beyond compare. She has been in a number of the Palace shows and has always impressed me with her talent, looks and professionalism. I always try to see everything she appears in. Actually, all the principals in this show are great - very talented. I recommend this to everyone in the Austin area. I saw the a professional production and really, this is better. It is hilarious, creative, and played out so well. I cannot understand why it is not being hyped in the entertainment press, radio and tv. It is worth the price and then some.
