"Brunch with Santa" Provides Holiday Cheer for Deserving Central Texans

On Saturday, December 10 Austin On Stage Magazine and Rusty's Austin will co-host a special "Brunch with Santa" for the clients and families served by the Wright House Wellness Center, an Austin-area non-profit organization that serves Central Texans affected by HIV and Hepatitis C. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rusty's Austin, located at 405 E. 7th in downtown Austin.

"This special event will provide a much-needed boost to families and individuals who might otherwise not have a holiday celebration this year," said Rob Faubion, Editor and Publisher of Austin On Stage Magazine. "Due to budget restrictions, the Wright House Wellness Center was unable to offer a client party this year. Through the generosity of our partners - including Rusty's Austin, Callahan's Western Store and private individuals - we can spread the joy of the holidays to some of our most deserving neighbors."

Guests at the "Brunch with Santa" will enjoy a fully-catered brunch and live entertainment featuring the Capital City Men's Chorus and Butler Opera Center mezzo-soprano Julie Snyder. Santa Claus will arrive on horseback to visit with the children and take photos, and the youngsters will also have a special area to make crafts and holiday cards to take home with them. The entire event will be provided free of charge to the attendees.

The Wright House Wellness Center is an Austin-area non-profit providing no- to low-cost support, education and resources to individuals and families affected by HIV and Hepatitis C. The philosophy of The Wright House Wellness Center is to help people living with or at-risk for chronic illnesses make healthier life-style choices, employ complementary/holistic health therapies to delay illness, and contribute back to the community. Each school year, Pollyanna Theatre Company serves over 22,000 children in the Austin area through a combination of in-house performances and school touring programs. It is the policy of the company that no child is turned away from a Pollyanna production because of an inability to pay for their ticket. With current public and private funding cuts, Pollyanna is holding this book sale to raise funds needed to continue to serve at-risk children in our community.

The post-concert live music event - featuring nationally-renown entertainers - will play Oilcan Harry’s in downtown Austin, to benefit the Red Cross relief efforts in Japan

Austin On Stage Magazine is joining forces with the Frank Erwin Center to aid pop star Lady Gaga in her efforts to raise money for the Red Cross relief efforts in Japan. Following her Austin concert on April 6th, the online arts and entertainment magazine will stage the “Austin ‘Hearts’ Japan” benefit show at Oilcan Harry’s, located downtown at 211 W. 4th Street.

“When Hurricane Katrina slammed into the United States, the government and people of Japan were one of the first countries to offer aid to our neighbors,” said Rob Faubion, publisher of Austin On Stage. “We wanted to set the example in Texas by returning the favor.”

The 90-minute post-concert benefit show begins at 10:30 p.m., and will feature live performances by nationally-renown singers and songwriters John Pointer, Hedda Layne and Courtney Sanchez. The evening’s entertainment will also include guest appearance performances by That Damned Band, the Austin City Showgirls, and the stars of ZACH Theatre’s recent sold-out production of the hit musical RENT, reuniting for one night.

Pop star Lady Gaga has urged her fans to contribute to the Red Cross efforts. She designed a “We Pray for Japan” wristband that is available for $5 through her website at www.LadyGaga.com. To date, sales of the wristband have exceeded $300,000 in donations to the Red Cross.

Oilcan Harry’s will throw “Austin’s Largest Lady Gaga Party” on April 6th, as part of the benefit concert event. Starting at 5 p.m., patrons can enjoy Lady Gaga tunes and a chance to win a pair of tickets to the concert that evening. Oilcan Harry’s will also be running free round-trip shuttles from the club’s front door to the Frank Erwin Center, so patrons can avoid the parking congestion around the U.T. campus area.

Admission is free to the “Austin ‘Hearts’ Japan” concert event, but donations for the Red Cross will be accepted at the door. Oilcan Harry’s is located at 211 W. 4th Street in Austin’s downtown Warehouse District. The evening’s performances will also be simulcast live online.
