GAYTINO! by Dan Guerrero, Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center, December 4, 2013

Gaytino Dan Guerrero tour Austin TX
600 River Street, Austin 78701 -- click for map

~ ~ A remarkable life journey from East LA in the 1950's to New York's Great White Way in the 60's and 70's and back to Hollywood.

~ ~ Touching, hilarious, and absolutely one-of-a-kind, Dan Guerrero brings his two fascinating worlds together in a riveting solo show.

Dan Guerrero began his career in New York as a musical theatre performer, eventually becoming a successful Broadway talent agent representing many well know performers. He returned to his hometown of Los Angeles and became a "born-again Hispanic," fiercely working for more positive Latino images in the media as a casting director, writer, and independent producer of diverse TV programming. Guerrero also co-produced and co-wrote Lalo Guerrero: The Original Chicano, the award winning documentary about his late father, Chicano music icon Lalo Guerrero. The film aired nationally on PBS stations in the Voces series hosted by Edward James Olmos.

¡Gaytino! travels through decades of Mexican-American/Chicano history, and the gay experience, from a unique and very personal perspective. This autobiographical piece plays with music and visual projections, appeals to all audiences with its universal themes: coming of age, self-identity, self-acceptance, a father/son relationship and a treasured lifelong friendship.

Innocent While You Dream Zeb L. West Austin TXInnocent When You Dream

by Zeb L. West, directed by Steve Moore

Don Quixote spends most of this comedy adventure re-telling the story of Moby Dick! See Sancho Panza (as Ishmael) and Ahab battle the white whale windmill! This solo adventure uses puppets, masks, old-timey stagecraft, physical comedy, and sea shanties to smash two literary epics into an hour of shameless antics!

"I'm taking this work up to 7 fringe festivals in Canada this summer! This play takes place inside the belly of a whale! A castaway has been swallowed and driven mad by only having two books to read. It's an irreverent and silly one-man comedy about getting dragged along rock bottom and figuring out how to get out of the belly of the beast, told through masks, puppets and sea shanties."

Zeb West studied physical theater, clown and mask-making at the Dell'Arte School in California, and is a member of Austin's Trouble Puppet Theater Company and Brooklyn's Alphabet Arts.

Come see the Austin premiere of the show I'm taking up to 7 fringe festivals in Canada this Summer! Two nights only in the small space at SVT. This is my first go at this thing, so the paint is still a bit wet - I have another month for changes and fixes, so I'd love the feedback and support of my Austin community to make this play as good as it can be! Directed by my constant companion Steve Moore.

6 Guitars is an award-winning one-man show that is unlike anything you’ve seen before. One performer, 6 characters, lots of music and laughs. Chase Padgett delivers a breakthrough performance as he becomes 6 different guitar players each with their own voice, views and music while also playing standard and original songs in the styles of blues, jazz, rock, classical, folk and country. The show takes the audience along each character’s first introduction to the music he loves, the lessons he's learned through music along the way and finally what the true importance of music really is to us all. It’s sure to make you laugh, love and tap your toes the whole way through.

6 Guitars premiered at the 2010 Orlando International Fringe Festival where it won Producer of the Year, Best in Venue, Best Musician, Best Solo Show, Best Original Play and Best Male Performer. The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel wrote, “It’s just one guy – and one guitar – but it’s amazing!” Rochester (N.Y.) City Newspaper said, “Padgett glides effortlessly from character to character.”
