Auditions in Georgetown for Cats, the musical, December 7 - 9, 2013
The Artistic team is looking for a cast of approximately 24 adult and young adult actors. Actors must be at least 13 years of age to be considered for a role. All types, ethnicities and sizes are encouraged to audition.
Auditions will be held Saturday, December 7th, starting at 2pm, Sunday, December 8th, starting at 7:15pm, and Monday December 9th at 7pm. Callbacks will be held Tuesday, December 10th, starting at 7pm, with a possibility of additional callbacks on Wednesday, December 11th.
There will be some initial rehearsals during December, but the main rehearsal period will not begin until January 6th. Performances will begin February 14th, and close Sunday, March 23rd. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 2 pm. As this production tends to be very popular, it is also very likely that we will be adding Saturday matinees and possibly Sunday evening performances. All Auditions, Rehearsals, and Performances will be held at the Palace Theatre.
CATS is a very complex and difficult show with a tightly knit ensemble. For that reason, I am very disinclined to accept performance conflicts. However, we are considering the possibility of performing understudies and an offstage chorus, which may allow for some flexibility. If you do have (non-excessive) performance conflicts, please do not be discouraged from auditioning; just be sure to outline those conflicts on your audition form.
Our rehearsals will generally be held Monday through Thursday, from 7-10 pm, and Saturdays from 11 am-5 pm. However, it's possible that we will schedule rehearsals on some Sundays and Fridays as well. So we are asking for everyone's availability for the possible alternative times up front.
The Audition: Auditions on Saturday and Sunday will be vocal only. If you are interested in one of the particular soloists listed, please come prepared to sing the audition sides listed for that character. Even if you are interested in multiple roles, please pick only one set of sides to sing that shows the best of your vocal ability. You will be considered for all appropriate roles. If you are not aiming for a particular role or you are interested in one of the roles below with the default side (side 13 - Jellicle Songs), you can instead bring a song selection of your own that lasts no longer than 1 minute.
On Monday night, you will be taught a dance or dances to be performed in small groups, and there will also be some movement work.
Callbacks will be by invitation only, and consist of singing, dancing, and additional movement.
To schedule an audition, click the links below to fill out the online audition form, and you'll select your audition day at the bottom. You will receive a confirmation email with your date and time. Please download and fill out the conflict calendar, and email it back to us at productions@georgetownpalace.com along with your headshot (or any recent picture). The link is below. It is critical that you let us know all of your conflicts at the auditions. We will be unable to accept conflicts brought to us after casting is done unless they are emergencies.

Tartuffe is a self-righteous, mischievous, religious conman, who wins the confidence of the wealthy but gullible Orgon. When, against the wishes of his wife, Orgon orders his daughter to marry Tartuffe, the comedy unfolds as the household is thrown into turmoil. In spite of all the evidence, Orgon continues to believe that Tartuffe is not a fraud, but a worldly saint, and it’s up to his wife to expose Tartuffe as a charlatan. Will Orgon realize the truth before it’s too late, or will Tartuffe ruin them all?
Tartuffe was a popular hit from its opening in 1664, even though it also ignited controversy due to the implied criticism of religion. Widely recognized as one of Molière’s masterpieces, Tartuffe remains as hilarious and relevant as it was 350 years ago!
For tickets call the Box Office at 512.863.1378 or purchase online at www.southwestern.tix.com

Lend Me A Tenor is a door-slamming, dress-dropping farce with mistaken identities, mischievous misunderstandings and compromising positions. It is the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, and world-famous Italian tenor Signor Tito Merelli will be their guest artist in "Otello," highlight of the company's most important fundraiser for the 1934 season.
But Tito's troubled life, his hot-headed wife, and a "Dear John" letter mistaken as Tito's suicide note sends everybody's head swimming. No Tito, no $50,000 in ticket sales. Find the dead singer! Meanwhile, Max -- opera singer wanna-be -- is coerced into impersonating the Italian great to save the show. In costume, wig and make-up, he's is a dead ringer for the dead singer. And then it happens. Tito Merelli wakes up from his apparent one-too-many-sedatives, refreshed and ready for the spotlight!
Toss in a belligerent bellhop, a steamy soprano and a flamboyant opera director, and "Lend Me a Tenor" turns a rib-tickling romp of who kissed who into giggles and gasps of "it was you"?

Georgetown Palace Seeks Donations to Replace Art Deco Carpet
From the foundation’s website, www.herzsteinfoundation.org/, comes this information: “A businessman, entrepreneur, and, ultimately, a philanthropist, Albert Herzstein dedicated his later years to the charitable foundation that bears his name and that of his equally generous wife, Ethel. Through its gifts, The Herzstein Foundation honors the ideals of personal responsibility and resourcefulness in a free society, limited government, self-sufficiency, the right of all individuals to enjoy a life of quality, and the importance of providing opportunities for people to help themselves. Recipients include organizations that promote education, serve to enrich the human spirit, and work to improve quality of life for others. Preference is given to groups and projects that receive little or no support from the government. We seek to make contributions that will produce meaningful, positive change.”
Following 12 years of extensive foot traffic, the time has come to replace the carpeting throughout our building. Gregory Free, the designer and project manager for our major restoration/renovation project of 1998-2001, has joined with us in determining our carpeting needs this second time around. We feel it is important that we use the Art Deco pattern created for the 2001 restoration to preserve that bit of history. Mr. Free’s idea was to add a touch of color to the original carpet pattern, reaching out to the future while respecting the past. Our committee has agreed upon this approach.

Auditions in Georgetown for Peter Pan, the musical, August 24 - 26, 2013
The Georgetown Palace announces auditions for our upcoming production of Peter Pan, directed by Ron Watson, with choreography by Jesse Smart and music direction by Michelle Hache.
The Artistic team is looking for a cast of about 30-35 Adults, Teens, and Children to help bring this timeless, magical classic to life on the Palace Springer Memorial Stage. This show will be an unforgettable experience and a lot of fun.
Performances will begin November 15th, and close December 30th. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2pm. We will also have many weeknight performances, Saturday matinees, and possibly Sunday evening performances. All auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held at the Palace Theatre.
This show will have some special effects, and just as we did for the Wizard of Oz, the characters Peter, Michael, John, Wendy, Jane, and Liza will actually fly. We're bringing in Hall and Associates flying effects to do the flying installation and training.
The show will have a large number of performances, and being around the holidays, it's understandable that some who want to be involved will have performance conflicts. It's my preference not to double cast any of the roles unless I have to. But please don't let having performance conflicts prevent you from auditioning. I will more than likely have performing understudies, where the understudy will be guaranteed a small number of performances and of course perform in the event of an emergency.
The Children's Chorus (anyone under the age of 12) may play Pirates, Indians, and animals, along with some of the lost boys and featured roles. In order to audition, each child must be at least 7 years of age before August 24th, and not older than 12.
The Adults (ages 13 and up) will play the Pirates, Indians, Animals, along with the featured and named roles.
Our rehearsals will generally be held Monday through Thursday, from 7-10pm, and Saturdays from 1-5pm. However, it's possible that we will schedule rehearsals on some Sundays and Fridays as well. So we are asking for everyone's availability for the possible alternative times up front.

Auditions in Georgetown for A Few Good Men by Aaron Sorkin, June 1 and 2, 2013
Announcing auditions June 1 and 2 at the Palace Theatre, 810 S. Austin Street, southwest of Georgetown Courthouse (click for map) for A Few Good Men by Aaron Sorkin, directed by Ron Watson.
Before it was a blockbuster movie with Cruise, Nicholson and Moore, this military courtroom drama, written by Academy Award Winner Aaron Sorkin, was a Broadway hit with Timothy Busfield in the role of Lt. Kaffee. Two Marines are on trial for the death of a third at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. A young hot shot Navy lawyer can get a quick plea bargain with little jail time for his clients, but the case quickly becomes clouded with suicide, complicity and cover up leading all the way up the chain of command. The stakes are high and so are the courtroom fireworks.
To audition, you will need to perform a memorized comedic or dramatic monologue, no more than 1-2 minutes in length. This can be from any play, musical, movie, book, or personal experience. Do not come unprepared or you will not be considered for a speaking role. Callbacks will be by invitation only, and consist of readings from the script.
To audition, please click the following link: Audition Times
The role breakdown is as follows:
Lt. j.g. Daniel A. Kaffee-(male 25-40). Young Navy lawyer with a reputation for a quick plea bargain. Very bright and well-educated; son of a legendary trial attorney and lawmaker.
Lt. Cmdr. Joanne Galloway: (female 24-40). Young Navy J.A.G. lawyer. Aggressive and assertive. By the book lawyer.
Lt. j.g. Sam Weinberg- (male 25-40). Defense Team. Kaffee's second chair for the murder trial, and a good friend. Much more of a straight shooter than Kaffee.
Lt. Col. Nathan Jessup: (male 30-45). USMC; a tough, bigoted Vietnam veteran. A career officer shaped by decades of cold-war politics. Stationed as Commanding Officer of the N. A.B. at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Youngest such C.O. in the Marines.
Lt. Jack Ross: (male 28-45). Marine prosecuting attorney. No nonsense lawyer with a keen political sense. Similar to Kaffee, he just doesn't have all the rule-breaking in him.
Lt. Jonathan James Kendrick- (male 28-45). Career marine. He only believes in 4 things: Unit, Corp, God, and Country. Cross Rev. Jim Baker or Billy Graham with an Army drill sergeant and you get Kendrick.
Pfc. Louden Downey: (male 21-30). Defendant. Not a real deep thinker. Downey usually follows Dawson's lead. He believes completely in the military ideals of honor and integrity. Follows orders.
Pfc. William T. Santiago: (male 21-30). Underachieving Marine that dies from the "Code Red" discipline applied by fellow Marines. Nice guy, buddies like him even though he's not cutting the mustard.
Lance Cpl. Harold Dawson: (male 21-35). Defendant. Downey's squad leader. Regular Marine, follows orders. Dawson is slightly faster on his feet than Downey, and tends to make decisions for both of them. The Corps is his life.
Capt. Matthew Markinson: (male 35-50). Career Marine. Solid officer, reports to a younger C.O. in Jessup and that rubs him a bit. Conscientious guy. Blames his own weakness for the loss of Santiago, and dishonoring himself and the Marine Corp publicly.
Cpl. Jeffrey Owen Howard: (male 24-45). Squad leader at Gitmo. Called as a witness in the trial.
Capt. Julius Alexander Randolph: (male 40-60). Judge for Downey and Dawson's trial.
Cmdr. (Dr.) Walter Stone: (male 35-60). Chief Medical Officer at Gitmo. Testifies at the trial.
Capt. Isaac Whittaker: (male 40-55). Kaffee and Sam's boss, heads up Navy Legal Department, and while he runs things by the book, he has a bit of an "old boy's club attitude". Career Navy lawyer.
Members of the Marine Corps Unit - These Marines form a tightly knit group who perform cadences between the scenes, demonstrating their precision in marching, and helping tell the story as it moves along. They will be a critical part of the production. Many of these will play other roles with lines as well.

Set in 1982, This is Our Youth follows three lost young souls in New York City. Warren, who steals $15,000 from his abusive lingerie-tycoon father; Dennis, a charismatic domineering drug dealer whose father is a famous painter and mother a social activist; and Jessica, the anxiously insightful woman Warren yearns for. A wildly funny, bittersweet, and moving story about trying to escape a dysfunctional family and finding your place in the world.
(For mature audiences, adult language and subject matter.)
“very funny…comedies of such brio and darkly satiric edge are rare.”–The New York Times

Auditions at the Georgetown Palace for South Pacific, December 8 - 10
Nellie Forbush is a nurse working overseas during World War II. She falls in love with a wealthy, older man who owns a plantation there. When she discovers that the mother of his two small children was a Tonkinese woman, the prejudices she grew up with in Arkansas prevent her from accepting his offer of marriage. Her friend, Lt. Cable, has a fiancée back home, but speaks of her with a sense of duty rather than feelings of love. When he meets a young, innocent Tonkinese girl, he too is forced to face his prejudices. The beloved score’s songs include “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair,” “This Nearly Was Mine” and “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame.”
Music for South Pacific is by Richard Rodgers, lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein II, book is by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan
