High comedy meets classical text, providing a fresh new approach to Shakespeare. This summer, Summer Youth Theatre presents Commedia of Errors, a 2010 adaptation of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. This clever mash-up of Commedia dell'Arte, contemporary comedy, and Shakespeare was previously performed in New York City. Commedia is a classical theatre form from 16th-century Italy and characterized by masked types who perform with a highly physical style.

 Something for Nothing, a new theatrical endeavor by Austin actress and recent UT graduate Chelsea Bunn, embarks on its first production with Shakespeare in the Park: The Comedy of Errors. The troupe will perform at Ramsey Park in Austin, TX, for two weekends beginning June 22, with shows on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public' for more information please email Chelsea Bunn, Artistic Director, at Shakespeare.park@gmail.com.

Something for Nothing Theater was founded on the belief that Shakespeare’s works, at their best, should be performed with a great deal of heart and a minimal amount of gimmick. The Comedy of Errors, one of Shakespeare’s earliest works, is a rollicking farce which follows the misadventures of two sets of twins separated at birth and reunited through happenstance. A summery romp with an element of slapstick, this comedy is sure to delight audiences of young and old.

Opportunity for Male Actor in Shakespeare in the Park's The Comedy of Errors

Shakespeare in the Park is seeking amale actor age 19 - 25 to take on two roles (the Duke and Balthasar) in upcoming production of The Comedy of Errors.  

A new theater endeavor by Chelsea Bunn, this production will take place in Ramsey Park and be free and open to the public. 

Performance dates are June 22,23,24,29,30 and July 1st. Rehearsals have already begun so time is of the essence! Interested parties should email a head shot and resume to shakespeare.park@gmail.com, along with their availability, to schedule an audition. This production will have improvisational tones so actors should be comfortable playing!

The new endeavor Shakespeare in the Park announces AUDITIONS Tuesday May 1 and Wednesday May 2 at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX, 78704 for William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, directed by Chelsea Bunn. The Comedy of Errors is a rollicking comedy of mistaken identities following the misadventures of two sets of twins separated at birth. Actors pursuing a role should be open to experimentation and have a strong desire to learn. Rehearsals are May-June with performances June 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 & July 1.

Please bring a headshot/resume and 1-2 minutes of prepared material showcasing your talents. Performances should demonstrate ability to handle Shakespearean verse but are not otherwise limited. Current Productions from the UK's National Theatre Will Be Retransmitted to Cinemark Cedar Park, starting February 9

Thanks to a vigorous pursuit by new arrival Ben Clark, Austin theatre buffs will have the opportunity to see retransmissions of current productions from the last half of the 2011-2012 season of the UK's National Theatre, beginning on February 9 with Nicolas Wright's Travelling Light.

Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors is scheduled for March 1 and She Stoops to Conquer by Goldsmith will be shown on March 29. Cinemark Cedar Park has scheduled them on Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Austin Shakespeare Launches the Young Shakespeare Program with its first production

The classic comic caper of double twins and doubting wives stars an all-teen cast including Rosalind Faires as Emilia, Savannah Finger as Dromio of Ephesus, Ciara Flynn playing Adriana, Dillon Marrs playing Balthasar and Officer, Katie Pocock as Luciana, and Dallas Emerson as Antipholus of Syracuse.

Young Shakespeare offers students ages 11 to 18 intensive Shakespeare training as they run and perform in a professional production. The director is Matt Radford, a professional actor in the UK for fifteen years who is currently studying for his Ph.D. in Renaissance Drama at UT.

"The Comedy of Errors will transport audiences from the idyllic shores of Lake Austin to the dockside of exotic and disreputable Ephesus,” comments Director Matt Radford. “To the Elizabethans, the port of Ephesus in the eastern Mediterranean had biblical associations with sorcery and double-dealing, but was also home to the Temple of Diana, one of the seven wonders of the world, a place of uneasy enchantment in which travelers might lose not only their wallets but their very identities.”

Costume designer Glenda Barnes dresses the young cast in spirited 1940s-inspired costumes: men in trousers that sit on the waist, women in heels, and everyone in stylish hats. Jean Cannon, English Ph.D. graduate at UT and milliner extraordinaire, creates gorgeous headwear for the entire cast. Michael McKelvey, recent winner of Best Director and Conspicuous Versatility at the Critics Table Awards, lends his musical talents to create music and effects that combine jazz and Latin swing.

The Comedy of Errors is underwritten by generous grants from Bill Dickson and The Austin Community Foundation.
