• Our goal is to provide you with opportunities to either work or observe work in your area of interest, should your interest align with our schedule and projects this semester. We will not ask you to perform volunteer duties that do not build your desired skill set. (For example, if you are interested in learning arts administration, we will not ask you to perform in our next play for free. However we might ask you to help archive our marketing materials or create a production budget.)
  
  It is our expectation that you will commit 48 hours (approximately 4 hours per week) to Rude Mechs to complete your internship during the semester. Your internship will span roughly 12 weeks. We will never ask you for more than 10 hours in a given week. We expect you to work virtually or independently as much as possible, and to see you in person no more than twice per month (unless you choose a project that must be executed at the venue, or requires our supervision).

Keith &Margo's Murder Mystery Texas - Austin troupe - Immediate openings for 2013-2014 troupe members. Join A Dramatic Improv Troupe in an Environmental Immersion Theatre setting in Austin. A non-traditional, ground-breaking approach to audience-participatory Guerilla Theatre. Set in a modern-day backdrop of a homicide investigation and crime scene. Artistic Director: Robert Banks.

Actors secretly pose as real diners in a restaurant setting -- incognito. Our dinner theatre guests are therefore surrounded by about 4-5 of our imposters during our ultra interactive event. When three homicides occur over dinner, the competing guests [contestants] search the dining room for hidden evidence, interrogate any of you actors acting suspiciously, and tell theories to our Detective -- played by a comedian trained in improvisation. Our actors do a combination of hiding in plain sight, improvising [arguments, etc.] and standard dialogue. Acting style for incognito suspects is dramatic and realistic. Detectives, on the other hand, are wise-cracking smartasses, humorously roasting the audience members.

TROUPE MEMBER COMMITMENT: A member of our troupe is always free to do other plays with other theatres & films. We are flexible, and we rotate actors frequently.


ROLES / JOBS: The troupe is accepting headshots and acting resumes now for the following paid positions in Austin:

(1) MYSTERY HOSTS to supervise/rehearse/oversee the cast plus guide the audience with rules of the competition. Must be super-organized as well as comfortable with acting as Master of Ceremonies. Looking for a well-groomed, friendly, playful, unflappable ‘people person’ with great leadership abilities. Male or female, age late 20’s-50’s. *Non-Equity Host will receive a stipend starting at $125-$150 per performance (rehearsals not paid). Comes with paid training

(2) Smart-ass comic actors to play the lead role of Local Police Department HOMICIDE DETECTIVE — edgy comedic-types who enjoy improvising. Must have a great sense of humor, be believable as a hard-boiled cop, be able to control a crowd and interact with the audience while leading them through a murder investigation… all with witty banter and repartee. Male or female, age late 20’s-50’s. *Non-Equity lead principal will receive a stipend starting at $125-$150 per performance (rehearsals not paid). Comes with paid training

(3) Experienced actors to play SUSPECTS and MURDERERS. Nice, professional wardrobe required. Non-Equity principals will receive a stipend starting at $65-$75 per performance and 3-course dinner for selected roles (rehearsals not paid). Must be comfortable with reality-based, serious dramatic improvisation (these are not comedic roles)

Specifically have immediate need for:

• INGENUES/FEMME FATALES — attractive actresses who can play either sweet or sexy… height/weight proportional.

• LEADING MEN/GIGOLOS — attractive actors who can play either nice guys or handsome S.O.B.s… height/weight proportional.

• CRIMINALS/GANGSTERS — physically intimidating macho men who can play menacing characters believably (mafia-drug cartel types).

• CHARACTER MEN — all physical looks, mid 20’s-65… executive-lawyer-professor-doctor-Dad types.

• CHARACTER WOMEN — all physical looks, mid 20’s-65… executive-lawyer-professor-doctor-Mom types.

(4) Entry level, supporting roles of ASSASSINS and INNOCENT BYSTANDER VICTIMS (novice actors welcome for these roles only). Pays $40 a show for only an hour’s work

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• All races, ethnicities, nationalities and sexual orientations welcome. Bi-lingualism a huge plus. We are wanting a liberal, international, color blind troupe.

• We are not looking for zany, wacky “theatricalism”. It’s not that kind of interactive theatre. Instead, we are going for a C.S.I. and Law & Order-style of acting.

Capital T's Annual 'New Directions' Opportunity for a First-Time Professional Director, Application Deadline August 31, 2013

When is the deadline?
August 31st 2013 at 11:59pm.

What is New Directions?
The New Directions program offers a young director with no professional credit the opportunity to direct a full-length play and bring a fresh new voice to Austin theatre while getting paid. The show will be fully produced by Capital T Theatre, and the director will have the opportunity to develop a piece of theatre that both reflects and contributes to the diversity of the Austin/Central Texas arts scene. As part of the New Directions program, Capital T is currently searching for a promising young director for the company's contribution to the Long Fringe of FronteraFest. The Austin American Statesman calls this festival the fringe theater event of the Southwest.

All applicants need to be available in the Austin area during the rehearsal and performance processes (early December through early February). The company currently has several exciting scripts under consideration for FronteraFest, but welcomes suggestions from applicants as well.

Plays must meet the following criteria:

• newer, edgy, and engaging full-length scripts (90 minutes or less);
• up to approximately 3-4 characters;
• minimal technical requirements;
• ability to be produced in six weeks or less.

Who can apply?
 
Anyone under 35 years of age who does not have a professional directing credit on their resume may apply. We consider any paid directing job a professional credit.
 
What do I need to do to apply?
 
To be considered for New Directions an applicant must submit a full theatrical resume and cover letter. The resume should include all theatrical credits. The cover letter should address why you are interested in being the next New Directions Director. It should also answer the question:"How can the New Directions program help you reach your next goal?". Forward the resume and cover letter to info@capitalT.org
 
What happens next?
 
After the deadline has passed, the resumes and letters of interest will be read by a committee who will then select up to 10 finalists to invite to formal interviews. At these interviews each candidate will be given the opportunity to share a visual portfolio as well as discuss plays that are being considered for production. After this first round of interviews 3 finalist are selected for final interviews. Final interviews will be conducted with the artistic director, past new directions directors, and company members.
 
Who are the past New Directions directors?

Most recently, Kelsey Kling directed the Austin premiere of GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES. This was Kelsey's first collaboration with Cap T. It was a critical and box office hit. The Austin Chronicle boasted “Kelsey Kling makes a distinguished directorial debut with Rajiv Joseph’s gem of a love story”.

In 2012 Scott Tipton was selected to have the honor of directing the United States premiere of Ella Hickson's PRECIOUS LITTLE TALENT. Scott said of the experience, "It is a great honor to be ‘entrusted’ with the responsibility of being one of the first individuals who introduces the playwrights story." This was the first time he had worked with Cap T. After directing PLT he has since relocated to the Houston area and continues to direct theatre.

In 2011 Gary Jaffe directed the smash hit SPIRITS TO ENFORCE by Mickle Maher. Not only gaining rare unanimous praise fromcritics and audiences alike, it was nominated and won the 2011 Austin Critics' Table Award for Best Drama. This was Gary's first time to work with Capital T. Gary was recently named Artistic Director for Tutto Theatre Company here in Austin.

In 2010 Derek Kolluri directed the critically acclaimed DYING CITY for Capital T. The show, which was the most well received of fronterafest longfringe, was given extended performances outside of the festival. Since directing for Capital T Derek has gone on to found The Sustainable Theatre Project. A new theatre company in Austin, STP plans to offer fresh, professional theatre to the Austin theatre community while maintaining the highest possible respect for the environment.

In 2009 Kelli Bland was selected as for our New Directions program to direct the US premiere of THE BIRD and THE BEE by Al Smith and Matt Hartley. This was her first time to work with Capital T. The plays THE BIRD and THE BEE were nominated for Outstanding production of a Drama by the Austin Critics Table Awards. The plays were also the highest attended theatrical event of FronteraFest 2009. Since directing for Capital T she went on to direct and produce the world premiere of the independent musical FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT at Salvage Vanguard Theatre and now collaborates with PAPER CHAIRS.

In 2008 John Carroll was selected for the New Directions program. It was his first time to work with Capital T. He directed the regional premiere of I GOOGLE MYSELF by Jason Shafer. The play earned great critical success in it fronterafest run and was subsequently remounted at Hyde Park Theatre in the summer of 2008 becoming the highest earning production of Capital T's at the time. John has gone on to found the Weird City Theatre Company, a company that produces re-envisioned classics and original works while merging a new audience with the traditional.

Opportunity: FronteraFest 2013 Applications Available via Hyde Park Theatre

That's right: it's time to heat up your winter nights again, with the holy-smokes-this-is-momentous 20th anniversary season of FronteraFest at Hyde Park Theatre (typically one gives emeralds on the 20th, hint hint). The Short Fringe, the Long Fringe, BYOV, or Mi Casa--as always and ever, FronteraFest is five weeks of alternative, offbeat, new, and just plain off-the-wall fringe theatre. Too bad there's no actual way to expect the unexpected, because that is your only hope.

FronteraFest is produced in collaboration with ScriptWorks, a group dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights and developing new dramatic works.

The Short Fringe
January 15 - February 16, 2013 at Hyde Park Theatre

Every night we present a new bill of four or five plays no longer than 25 minutes each. Brilliant monologues? Plays in progress? Comedy improv? Cabaret singers? Avant-garde dance? Short films? Multimedia? We've seen it all.

Every Saturday night is a juried "Best of the Week" performance, and the last week, February 12-16, is the juried "Best of the Fest"--with a few wild cards thrown in. A complete schedule, updated regularly, will be available here as the festival approaches.

PARTICIPANTS: Get your application in PDF format turned in right this second, or at least by November 1, 2012. (Seriously, we give out slots on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay.) The fee is $50, but there's a $10 discount if we receive your application by October 1, 2012. Print it out, fill it out, sign it, and mail it to us with your wee check.

City of Austin Releases Guidelines for Cultural Grants FY2013

The City of Austin has just published guidance for applying to the biennial program of grants to the arts, funded by the hotel occupancy tax. Deadline to apply is May. 1. From their webpage:

There are three specific programs which fall under the “core funding” umbrella.

They are:

• Organizational Support - Request levels up to $200,000 depending on organization’s budget size.
• Project Support - Requests of $25,000-$100,000 by organizations for specific arts project activities.
• Project Support II - Requests up to $25,000 by organizations for specific project activities. Requests up to $15,000 for individual artist projects.

Eligibility

Applicants must be incorporated, tax exempt organizations residing in Austin or its Extra Territorial Jurisdiction. Other organizations and individual professional artists residing in Austin or its Extra Territorial Jurisdiction may apply under the umbrella of a 501c organization.

Funding Cycle

Applications are due each year on May 1. Guidelines and application forms for the upcoming funding cycle are made available online in the early spring. Core programs follow a two-year funding cycle, accepting new applicants for odd-numbered fiscal years.

Cohen New Works Festival Now Accepting Applications for 2011 Productions

The application for the 2011 University Co-Op Presents the Cohen New Works Festival is now available online at www.coopnwf.org. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, October 20 at 12pm.

The University Co-op Presents the Cohen New Works Festival is a celebration of new work created by UT students that culminates in a week-long showcase every other April held throughout campus. It is not just an event, but a celebration of a continuously ongoing process — the creation of new work.
